Marvel Phase 4 Will Introduce More Female Heroes - Kevin Feige

Am I the only one who took his statement as more female lead films rather than women taking a more prominent supporting roles. Like with the upcoming Captain Marvel and Black Widow. I'm not sure what other female heroes could shoulder a series (I see Ms Marvel as working better as a series than a movie) though I've long said that the Avengers should stand slightly apart from the other films in the franchise rather than being almost interchangeable for a Captain America/ Iron Man movie. I can think of a few women who could thus lead that franchise.

I shouldn't have to. The film will speak for itself. I've never had to read any Marvel comics prior to watching the MCU films. The films are great entry points for general audiences like myself who weren't familiar with these characters beforehand.
Once again you miss the point. Do a little research before making comments about subjects you have little or no knowledge of.

I doubt Miss Marvel will be in a tv show - they'll want to connect her directly to Carol Danvers. And Feige confirmed he has plans for her, and he isn't involved in the tv side anymore. But she could remain relegated to a side character in the captain Marvel movies.

I would love a Scarlet Witch movie, if they really are pushing her to the breaking point (family dead, brother dead, friends dead, etc) though it might be a hard sell.

I would also love a Squirrel Girl or She-hulk movie, but last I heard SG is still attached to an upcoming tv show and SH is trapped in Hulk distribution rights limbo.

For the most likely suspects, I would point to what Marvel has said a dozen times over already: Phase IV will be hugely Cosmic. So probably any popular female cosmic characters would be most likely. That side of marvel comics is by far my weakest marvel trivia subject, but I have at least heard of characters like Quasar and Moondragon. I could also see TT's Valkyrie taking a lead role (Maybe even leader of the new Guardians of the Galaxy? I really hope we don't have to suffer through Stallone as the lead of a guardians movie).

@Jinn seems to be a far bigger fan of Vance Astro than I so I'd be interested in what they think of him getting to the original band (back?) together. Personally I'm fine with him doing some kind of anti-hero cosmic heist type film away from the more noble Guardians though I think his current out put is lacking compared to some of his older stuff so it depends if he can get his mojo back.

Considering how they've handled the Hulk thus far even if they got the rights to her I'm not sure they would do Shulk justice as she is far more light hearted and meta than her cousin and it might undermine his suffering to see her on screen at the same time.

As for connecting Ms Marvel to Carol if I remember correctly she wasn't really and that was something I kind of liked. She was a fan inspired by Captain Marvel and thus took up her old name to fight crime. They didn't meet till a while into her series. If we're going to see her on screen I hope they follow this formula through at least a couple of movies first.

Bring back Brigitte Nielsen as Red Sonja, have a better plot, and leave Arnie the hell out of it.

At this point, I just don't care. Kevin Feige has been making promises like this for years. And it took him 11 years to produce a MCU movie with a female lead. Perhaps he will finally fulfill this latest promise. But I'm tired and I just don't care.

Nice, I'm making a name for my love of the original Guardians :D

Personally, I'd love to see such a movie, but that is more because I like the previous two Guardians movies. While they are technically adaptions of the DnA run on the Guardians they really just feature some of the characters and then make their own story and a lot of changes to said characters. And that is not a bad thing by any means. The 2014 Guardians movie brought me to comics and the Guardians in particular and is also the reason why you people have to put up with me fangirling over a quote from a 70s comic. I love the movies for what they are and I love the comics for what they are. With the set-up we've already had in Vol. 2 a Guardians 3K movie would be totally different from any of the source material, but if James Gunn is involved (or other competent people, but I like Gunn) I'm totally on-board.

Once again you miss the point. Do a little research before making comments about subjects you have little or no knowledge of.

Doing research before seeing a movie shouldn't be required. And previous Marvel Studios films didn't require me to read the comics beforehand... nor do I have any desire to.

The comics are irrelevant. Whatever interpretation of the characters that Marvel Studios puts on the screen will be the defining version of those characters.

Feige has a great track record with his 'promises.'

Why would we have needed a film with a female lead earlier on? Captain Marvel is obviously the best choice for a female-led film and a hero of her cosmic power and scale makes more sense in the post-Infinity War landscape than in the first 3 phases.

It's definitely female supporting, instead of female leads. We know Captain Marvel is getting a trilogy/franchaise... and maybe Black Widow, but there isn't room for half of the Phase 4 roster to be female-led franchises.

For Phase 4, we already have Black Panther, Thor, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Guardians (led by Pratt/Starlord), plus strong chance of X-Men (Wolverine as the obvious lead), and Fantastic Four (Mr.Fantastic).

I wouldn't even be surprised if Iger and company make them do another Iron Man with RDJ, since the last one did 1.215 Billion. Iron Man is a huge money maker.

They've said films like Deadpool are going to carry on uninterrupted as they seem to be doing well. Will they stay under "Fox" or will they be put back in the Marvel box? I mean will there be a "Fox" studio after all this is done even if it does have the disney logo before it.
I mean I guess what I meant to say is that when it's pointed out it seems silly to expect anything major coming down the pipe for ages with that load on the track. Guess I didn't stop to think about it and just took statements like this one and the whole "things will change post Infinity war" to mean that it will be totally different as soon as the credits role on the next Avengers movie. I mean including Captain Marvel that's nine franchises ongoing already with quite a few of those still in movie one of an estimated three.

Nerys Myk wasn't saying that you should do research on the comics before watching a movie, but rather before making claims about the comics.

What claims? All I said was the Eternals has a male lead (which is true), I don't need to read the comics to know that.

And then you and I spoke about the growing irrelevance of the comics industry and declining sales. This discussion doesn't require me to read the comics either.

Apparently Disney will do an R-rated sub-studio for franchises like Deadpool, Aliens, etc and other R-rated properties from Fox.

The advantage of Deadpool is he is a 4th wall character anyway, in his own universe and timeline. Deadpool 3 could easily reference characters and elements from the MCU, without actually being a part of the MCU.

What claims?

For one this:
I think I can predict the female characters he's bringing in for Phase 4, and they're good ones.
Which is kind of a weird claim regarding Eternals, Miss Marvel, Cassie Lang and all other new characters they could be bringing in, as you have never had any direct exposure to them.

All I said was the Eternals has a male lead (which is true), I don't need to read the comics to know that.
And if you had only claimed that the main character was male there would be no problem at all, but:

Eternals - The lead hero is a man, but the supporting cast is largely female, similar to Black Panther.
which is not true.

I was just thinking that's another movie they need to sort out writers, shooting time, release windows for as they seem to have a lot on when it's all listed out for us.

I think Ms Marvel has been discussed so it seems fair to expect her. Cassie is involved in a rumour atm about a time jump between Avengers 3 and 4. I've heard it a few times, no idea how much weight to put in it but again I can see why she's brought up. The only eye brow raise for me is the Eternals who I've read once (by N Gaiman) but I think they're being chucked in here simply because people seem to think Marvel is going hard on the cosmic post IW (has this been announced somewhere that I haven't heard about or is it just another rumour?). I would say they're not big enough to carry a movie but then again I would have said the exact same thing about GotG pre movie too. Though I think they might just be being chucked into the pot because we're kind of seen them and heard about them before now so maybe we will flesh them out in wave 4.
I think the problem people have Kane is you claiming these are good characters if you don't read comics. If you haven't read them then how do you know? The answer to this could just be that Kane has wiki'd them and see's them as interesting.
Also is guessing that the Eternals wasn't a claim that they know the comics but a guess that they will run it similar to the popular Black Panther than has just been and gone.

Fair enough on Kamala and also apologies to Kane_Steel I forgot that Cassie was in the Ant-Man movie, so you definitely have a basis for saying that she's a good character.

I remember seeing articles that claimed an Eternals movie was being made, but I never really took the time to check them out. If it comes I'll be glad about it, otherwise I hope we'll get something else cool. :)

Well, I could see that happening, but he said they were "good ones" which to me at least suggests that they are not merely interesting but actually good characters, which I definitely wouldn't base on a wiki page or something.

Yeah, that definitely makes sense, I may have been misreading Kane's post there. Although I do think that their second post didn't really make that clearer and seemed to imply that they were talking about the comics instead of a potential movie.

Given Mistress Death was supposed to be Thanos' obsession and therefore the point of the MCU, to be written out for a second rate "too many people" idea...yeah I'll call bullshit for now.
