Reasons why Archer is never mentioned in history

Do you enjoy living in your world of falsehoods?

Just because you say something doesn't make it true.

Both of my statements were factually correct:

1. There is no pre-Enterprise evidence for the NCC-1701 being named after the NX-01.

This is factually correct because the Enterprise series hadn't come out yet.

2. Based on TMP the XCV-330 was the predecessor to the NCC-1701.

This is also factually correct becasue of the footage seen in TMP and the fact that the Enterprise series was still several decades away.

So it's hardly a world of falsehoods to claim the above statements to be true.

I'd say the second is more of an assumption, considering that it wasn't outright stated. Admittedly a very reasonable assumption, but still an assumption.

And based on the 602 Club in Enterprise, the Ringship predates the NX-01 by some time so no.

Yeah, it was an experimental prototype based on Vulcan designs if I remember correctly, but they abandoned it in favor of the warp 5 program.

It was written in one of the novels, Patterns of Interference (yeah, I had to look that up--I knew it was one of the Enterprise novels but I couldn't remember which one). According to the novel it was in the 2120's (though other sources list it as a 21st century ship so it depends on which continuity you follow I guess). In any event, all the sources have it predating Enterprise.

Ok if this topic has come up before I apologise, but any fun reasons why Archer is never mentioned in Star Trek history (ignore the real life reason) and add to the post above you!
Cheers :techman:

1. His existence was wiped out by another temporal cold war, on the night of his original conception, dad Henry Archer got drunk and no nookie took place.
I'd mentioned this one too many times. Archer and his crew had one last mission and whatever happened in the end or beginning of it - they were wiped out of existence of the real universe but somehow created the JJverse. Into Darkness showcases the NX-01 in an Admiral's office.

I'd rather accept Archer in the JJverse, but there's a strong probability Archer is part of those faux universes Worf stumbled into in "Parallels"; so his very existence is irrelevant.

I stated elsewhere on the forum this week

Also he slowly killed billions of people over a drawn out 10 year period because he THOUGHT that another species might overtake them on an evolutionary scale, though he never bothered to actually vet this by any institutions or anything.. no wait that was Archer. Archer is a douche. I can only imagine he messed with records after becoming president so the full scale of his douchebaggery was never brought to light.

Every captain of a ship named Enterprise going forward had to live that down. April probably went mad over it. He started affecting a fake British accent. Pike; trying not to be like Archer was always in the back of his mind. His parents told him when he got the ship "We're proud of you son. Just don't be like that douchebag Archer. This is the 23rd century. A lot of people are going to be looking up to you."

The strain caused him stress. He couldn't enjoy commanding a starship or deciding who lives and who dies. Finally his subtle mistakes and ended his grevious tormented anti-Archer existance in a mobile box with a blinkenlight. But at least he wasn't Archer.

Only Kirk broke the curse of Archer. His swashbuckling do-goodedness set a new course for the Federation. It would be Kirk people would talk about a century later. By the 24th century no one even mentioned Archer at all. All his memoriabilia, the NX-01, and his stuffed prized Beagle were crated, inventoried and forgotten. It would be Kirk and the 1701 people wanted to emulate. But they couldn't. They could envy but they could not recreate the magic.

Archer never saved the galaxy.
He saved Earth and the timeline, both of which in Trek are the same thing.
Actually, yes it was. Archer's personnel file (shown onscreen in IAMD II) specifically states that the planet in "Strange New World" was named Archer IV in his honor.
Pretty sure that one didn't make it to the screen. Hoshi does say "He had two planets named after him!" though.

Now, why didn't the historic warp 5 crew ever mention the historic warp 4 ship Franklin?:rommie:

I see the Franklin being a JJVerse only thing, since there were only the two warp 5 engine projects in the Prime timeline. The failed Daedalus one and Henry Archer’s.

How often in your everyday life do you mention John Paul Jones or Captain James Cook? People don't constantly go around talking about historical figures, unless they're historians. So this doesn't even need to be a question.
Its meant to be a fun, 'take the mick' thread, not a serious inuniverse analysis of what happened.....sigh

Okay, I got a feeling that this thread wasn't created to seriously discuss why Archer wasn't mentioned but rather to post fun reasons for that, so:

When becoming Federation president Archer went a bit off the deep end, started insulting Vulcans on the holonet and got fired quickly. The young Federation decided to purge all records of his presidency, like the 8.5th President from Gravity Falls, hence why he isn't referenced.
Thank you!!!!!!

Having been plopped into existence by the events of first contact, the whole shebang was plopped out of existence by a thing involving a burrito in season 3 of discovery.
...
That or it was something The Krenim did...in a deleted scene they had a member of the Voyager crew imprisoned who kept going about archer, and in one quiet night, they found a way to blip the Nx right out. They didn’t even care that it put their restoration back, they just wanted to shut the prisoner up. And time travel is how the krenim fix everything.

That we are told about. Archer is a nepotostic toady. He got the job because his dad was head of the Warp 5 complex. He wasn't giving any press to Franklinn (which is Prime timeline, Pegg's thoughts on the matter nonwithstanding)

True. I should have said, "A predecessor".

I'm probably as big a fan of ringed Enterprise as anyone.. I was hoping it would be the enterprise of the show and yeah, dissapointed it wasn't. It's still possible to shoehorn NX01 and XCV-330 by having the XCV-330 be a REALLY early, like Valiant and Conestoga period ship, using a lot of borrowed tech.

Clearly it was worth remembering, as they named NX-01 a few decades later. That's not unworkable. OV-101 Enterprise did its test flights in the late 1970's. VSS Enterprise had her last tragic flight in the 2010's.

I made a kind of joking post earlier, cause I didnt think this thread would be too serious, but the whole Dear Doctor episode actually does have to be taken into account. This is honestly probably the worst thing a starfleet officer ever did. He made Col Green look like Mother Theresa in one misstep AND the rest of the crew were complicit in either their silence or in the case of Phlox, their agreement.

Under the post-Romulan War exuberance, Archer may have seemed just awesome, but eventually those events would reenter public reckoning, and suddenly schools aren't named after Archer anymore, and no one wants to go visit NX-01 in the starfleet museum. And if you want to have a wall of ships named after Enterprise, sure put the old XCV-330 on the wall. Picard just left them both out entirely and stuck with Federation ships. Very sensible of the man.
