Who did Kirk inherit from Pike's crew

A fair amount of fiction I've read had Scotty the only main officer aside from Spock who stayed on board the Enterprise after serving with Pike. I don't know why that is though because nothing in WNMHGB indicates whether he served under Pike or not.
In "Enterprise The First Incident" by Vonda McIntyre think it has Uhura as well as Scotty working under Pike.for years

Twice during my US Navy career, command change happened while the ships were undergoing yard work*. In my headcanon, Kirk and Scotty come aboard during a similar upgrade period which results in the changes we see to the Enterprise.

*(once was a pier-side overhaul, the other was in drydock)

Interesting, but if I remember correctly, Scotty has something like three lines across both parts and is mostly seen wheeling Pike's chair into the briefing room. So I don't know that we had much of a chance to see him react to anything. . . .

DC Fontana's novel Vulcan's Glory put Scotty on Pike's crew (and building a still in engineering) as a junior engineer.

Great story, (and that crew had more Vulcans (seven) than Kirk's did, (one) maybe they liked Pike better lol)

Good one. I doubt that Fisher was intended to be the same character as the geologist in The Cage. But since they were played by the same actor and the roles were similar, this is in my head canon now.

I also like to think that Scotty was in engineering during Pike's tenure.

Yeah, it sounds like they cut that because it didn't go anywhere. They restored computer control, Mendez ordered Hansen to change course, and the Talosians made Hansen see the wrong controls. And of course Mendez wasn't really there either.

Geological Technician Fisher is not the same guy from Pike's crew! Do we even know what that character's name was? Plus if it was then I'm sure Kirk would have recognised him from the footage!

Yeah, the show was still finding itself. But in head canon: same face, same ship, same job... same guy. I've been in the same job at the same company for about 20 years, so Fisher doing 13 years is no big thing. In real life, that happens a lot more often than an absolute lookalike brother coming into the same job years later.

Strictly in my opinion, Spock, Mitchell, Lee Kelso, and Dr. Mark Piper were probably serving aboard Enterprise at the time Kirk took command.

Mitchell was obviously a close personal friend of Kirk.
Spock is said to have known Mitchell for years.
Lee Kelso and Mitchell appear to be well familiar with each other.
I simply figured Dr. Mark Piper was the hold over CMO and that Kirk brought his friend Leonard McCoy aboard when Piper left.

What is the difference between a 30 year old and a 43 year old? Negligible I think, it's not like he was 13 and then 26.

I’m sure somebody could come up with a plausible “All You Zombies” explanation for Space Officer Fischer becoming Geological Technician Fischer, aging only two years in 13, and adopting a really unfortunate hairstyle. Hopefully it won’t involve trilithium or tachyon pulses.
