The Motion Picture Phasers

Shane

Ensign
Newbie
Hello everyone,
This is my first post. Just wanted everyone’s opinion as to what color they think the Enterprise refit’s phasers would have been if they were used. I know they were red in Khan, but so were the torpedoes. However, in the Motion Picture, the torpedos were blue, so I was thinking the phasers may be blue also. Any thoughts?

I think it depends on the setting stun or kill.

Yes, I was just using TOS phasers as an example of the red and blue beams that we might have saw in TMP had they fired one of TMP Phasers.

FYI, the guard zap was cut because to get the VFX done they shortened the sequence and cut the first all off it, hence Ensign Phillips becoming Ensign Not Appearing In This Film.

Actually, and I apologize for not being clear, but I was referring to the Enterprise phasers. I was just curious as to what color everyone thought the Enterprise phasers would have been had they have been shot. For instance, in the Wrath of Khan, the Enterprise refit phasers had the red pulsating phasers. Personally, I think that the Enterprise from the Motion Picture would have been blue. Any ideas?

My mistake, I should have thought the ship's phasers because you mentioned it with the photon torpedoes. However, my answer would be the same for the ship, red or blue like in TOS.

I'd guess red, like how the Kelvin universe phasers pulse red but the photons fire blue.

I wonder if there was ever any test footage or memos about how weapons fire should appear?

I'd love to see TWOK redone with blue phasers replacing the red. Might look really interesting.

I think there might be something wrong with your telly @Maurice ,
try adjusting your picture settings until the nacelles appear blue. ;)

That is part of the reason I posted. I was thinking that there may have been a novelization that may have addressed this that I’m not aware of.

TMP nacelles do glow purple. It's just that it rarely comes across that way on film. The most purple-like shots of the Refit were still publicity photos. I can't find it on google image search but there's one from the top down that shows a lot of purple light bouncing off of the nacelle struts that is truly gorgeous. Anyway, this one looks pretty purple. The dimmer (less exposed) the more purple they seem to appear.

BTW, I always thought the Wrath of Khan phasers were more orange than red.

I'm kidding-ish. When you see photos of the model on the stage and in beauty shots the grills are very purplish, but they're more blue in the film proper, albeit how blue varies between shots. And the overall color on the bluray is weirdly bluer than it ought to be.

Anyway, notice this: The deflector is blue blue, and the nacelle grill looks more purple in comparison, as is the glow it throws on the pylon.

Come on! One of you crafty fellows or ladies isn't going to put Phaser fire into this bubble gum card? Like we all wanted to see when they came out?

Purple flux chillers were indeed more of a publicity / "beauty shot" thingy, and how the ship appears in my dreams, if not TMP the film. I probably attribute that to the purple chillers depicted on the David Kimble Cutaway poster I had as a kid (still have it actually) and the famous Cibachrome shots used as the basis for a lot of promotional items.

Pretty sure as well that in any shot of the Enterprise minature with purple inner nacelles that shows the front of the ship, both photon launchers will also be glowing red (as also depicted on the Kimble illustration).
