I take it the book is out in the Colonies? Don’t know why there is a 2 week wait here.

 

I’m 22 Chapters in and I’m finding

the Prometheus crew is more like the guest cast. This seems to be a Lwaxana Troi book more than a Prometheus book.

 

Cross Cult said to us they wanted this crisis to be more than just an odd region in space having a problem. So we decided to show different factions dealing with the Lembatta cluster crisis like the Federation headquarters, the High Council on Qo'noS and of course the Renao themselves. So, yes, the "Prometheus" is only a part of this story as Captain Adams is only a part of the crew (something that confused some readers, too - Adams is not the main protagonist although he is the captain).

In regard to this special person: well, Christian is quite fond of her and he wanted to give her an important role in this part of the story. (You may never forget: STP was written as a 50th anniversary trilogy so adding personnel from 50 years of Star Trek "for fun" was part of the deal.)

 

Must have confused a lot of new readers, since something like that would have never made it into mainstream Trek

 

We were totally ahead of our time.

 

But to be honest it's not about Roaas either. If I had to choose some main protagonists I would say it's about Lenissa zh'Thiin, about Jassat ak Namur, Kromm and L'emka. But mostly it's an ensemble piece.

 

Yeah, I get the 50 year thing. But special person I find isn’t really contributing to the story. I’m kind of finding “Root Of All Rage” to be comparable to the middle section of Star Trek The Motion Picture where it’s almost all filler where you have long shots of the Enterprise flying or you see Sulu trying to look interested, with the odd contrived action sequence to keep the audience awake.

 

I had to give this a ‘Below Average’ which is a stark contrast to Fire With Fire which I rated ‘Outstanding’.

 

Just started it. But I really, really want the "drought" to be over.

 

Just got my copy today. Had a look to make sure it was in English and it was which is good. I’ll get to it once I’ve finished the first Prey book.

 

Just finished. Lots of references including (*) and the Q Continuum trilogy. I still think that these two books could be shorten a lot and not lose any plot advancement.

 

As I finished this one up, a thought that popped in my head was "I wonder if there will be news of future novels by the time Book 3 gets its North American release?"

 

You are probably right. In fact most books could be shorten more or less without losing plot. But in my opinion a book is not only about plot advancement, but also about its protagonists and a certain atmosphere. So we tried to have it all. We tell the mission of the Prometheus and the Bortas, but we also have personal moments for some characters and we show what is going on in the Federation and the Klingon Empire during the weeks of the Lembatta crisis. And all of it has a certain theme: being a stranger and xenophobia. What is happening to Jassat ak Namur on the Prometheus or to Raspin or L'emka on the Bortas or in the streets of Paris on Earth is connected to or mirrors the events that take place in the Lembatta cluster.

 

I’m 270 odd pages into it and I’m a bit worried Spock hasnt put what’s going on together yet. From the prologue in the first book to the log on the Valiant it seems very reminiscent to the entity in the TOS episode, “Day of the Dove”. I maybe completely wrong here but Spock should at least mention the similarities.

 

Don't worry. Everything will be fine soon. And don't forget: You have more information about what is going on than Mister Spock at this part of the story. (He didn't read the prologue for example.)

 

I did finish it and I know he does get it eventually but there were so many similarities that his Vulcan mind should have got it sooner.
Story reminds me of the story of Abeloth in Star Wars EU who was a powerful force entity that was inprisoned by the Celestials in a region of space called the Maw which was a series of black holes close to each other which was created by Centerpoint Station. Doing the Legacy of the Force series, something happens which causes her to escape and cause chaos.
The entity in this had a very similar fate.

The book was pretty good but I did feel that very little happened in it, besides the end. Felt like there was a lot of unnecessary padding.

 

It appears that Big Finish is doing audiobooks or an audio drama adaptation of the trilogy - or if not, something with the exact same name. No details yet, but it's mentioned in the teaser for tomorrow's episode of their podcast, so more information to come...

 

That's cool to hear. Although I was more excited when I saw the thread in the Doctor Who forum
