TLJ Actor Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico) Deletes Instagram After Abuse

Well It can't be the Stormy Daniels quote; She seems to know a real scumbag when she sees one.

Mission accomplished, Mr. Potato Head.
And that was from 2003, Disney had plenty of time to have known the type of asshole that they were hiring.
And when you set out to make a movie that you deliberately want half the audience to remember as the worst movie-going experience of their lives, That's not subverting their expectations; That's Trolling.

I just wish he had picked another franchise to destroy for his own personal amusement.

1. What on earth about the harassment thread, made you think that your half assed attempts at film criticism were appropriate or welcome?

2. No one is going to mob Rian Johnson for you. Especially not if they care enough about the subject to post in the harassment thread. Run off back to Reddit, if you’re that desperate for someone to satiate your stalker-boner.

Quitting social media because of nameless assholes is going to make them think they got want they wanted and they'll move onto their next victim. When people have the anonymity of the internet to coward behind they should be ignored because these assholes don't have the guts to say it in real life.

Except, as the last year or so have pretty wildly proven, that’s objectively wrong. Of course, nearly every person other than straight, white, cis men, already knew that. Because we do have ‘these people’ say it to our faces.

Without people or forces to literally prevent bullying, ‘Don’t feed the trolls’ is about as effective deterrent advice as ‘Ignore the bullies/they’re just jealous/they secretly like you.’ The person punching you, does not care if you cry. If anything, a lack of tears sometimes just encourage them to hit harder.

On the internet? I will always stick around.

If one literally can’t envision quitting something under any circumstances, then it’s typically an addiction. And probably should be quit.

I was actually replying to a question about how George Lucas viewed Star Wars.
Pretty much all my answers end with "Rian Johnson is a piece of shit".

*And since Rian Johnson is at the very core of all the hate and division and not some poor girl just trying to pursue her dreams. I don't feel it's inappropriate or off topic for his name to come up in ANY current Star Wars debate.

**Look, I'd be more than happy to start my own thread on the topic. But somehow I get the feeling that would be like opening my own dunking booth, in this amusement park.

The franchise is kind of like the Lord of the Nazgul.

Franchise: You fool! I am eternal! I am the goose that continually lays golden eggs! I am the gift that keeps on giving! No man can hinder me!!!

Kathleen Kennedy: I AM NO MAN, HOLD MY BEER
Kathleen Kennedy has presided over the profitable and well organized expansion of the Star Wars franchise, shedding the baggage of the prequels, the bloated EU, and the willy-nilly approach favored by GL. She has an immensely difficult job, and she has handled it with grace and skill.
Screw this notion that she needs to go simply because some fan-boys don't like some elements of a portion of a single film that still made OVER A BILLION DOLLARS.

I've never once heard a rational explanation of why TLJ made so much money if everyone hated it and Disney was unhappy with the box office. Makes no sense.

As there aren't any. The majority of people on this board saw the movie and enjoyed it to varying degrees, nearly all positive.

I see at least 2 crybaby videos on Youtube about how the movie is the worst thing ever nearly every frigging day. I at least hoped they would keep that anger directed at the product and not the actors. Pretty wrong about that, sadly.

No he’s not. The ‘cause’ is idiots who, due to their own terrible character flaws, feel so personally slighted by a damn movie that they will personally attack people involved in it.

But I think we both know why you won’t accept that reason.

The metaphor was dumb anyway. Because if Star Wars is The Witch King of Angmar, then apparently it was never that great in the first place.

Because sure, The Witch King was reasonably tough. In a ‘punch down’ kinda way.

Except he was easily tricked into becoming a literal slave to the whims of a stronger being, is the withered husk if a former greater person, has no intrinsic strengths of his own, never actually succeeds in his goals, and is trounced by totally normal joes at least three times (once by total accident) before finally being put out of his misery.

And there was much rejoicing at his long-awaited demise. Briefly. Because as it turns out, he wasn’t that special and is incredibly easy to replace.

Also, Does this mean Kennedy will be hailed as a hero, hook up with pretty much The Worlds Most Perfect Man, and be second banana at Disney?

I’ve changed my mind: this metaphor is great. Probably not for the intended reason, but still just peachy.

While I agree with you, just as I'm not going to base the reaction to this film on the RT audience score, I can't base it on this forum's reaction either. The film is divisive. There's no question. But a divisive film doesn't just make a billion dollars if it isn't enjoyed by some. Cuz it was. What really gets me is the idea if you like it, you're a moron.

Its pretty sad that I've had to hide a dozen or so YT channels because of a bunch of people who are whining over a movie.

Well I've been away from the forums a while so I was going by the overall trend around the internet the last few months. For every angry video on there, there are two or more from people whether they liked the movie or not explaining why, reasonably. And I've seen a few of "those" video titles too, calling out anyone who dared enjoy it. Usually with some insane/angry thumbnail.

Same here. Luckily I can hide most of it with a couple of clicks, it would just be nice to not have to for a few days at a time.

From my own experience I think it had a lot to do with the fact that everybody and their Uncle Louie went to see it opening weekend and far beyond, not knowing a thing about it. Sitting in jubilant excitement, just waiting to see what Luke was going to do with that Lightsaber. I think I even turned to the guy next to me with a stupid, giddy, shit eating grin on my face, as the Lucasfilm logo came up. Which turned out to be a good thing, because boy was I about to be fed a steaming pile of it.

My prediction is that Episode IX will bear out the truth. We'll see then how eager people will be to stick their hands back into that fire.

Considering the fact that the movie sold only a third of its tickets (domestically) in the opening weekend per Box Office Mojo, how do you then justify that statement when TLJ would go and sell another 43.7 million tickets after opening weekend?

Well, you can count two here. My wife and I will be there opening night. And I’d stand to reason that even a lot (not all, mind you) of those who feel the same way you did will be back.

Having said that, yes, I believe the box office will be lower than TLJ (but much higher than Solo) for Episode IX. Any figures would be unmitigated speculation at this point.

I don't accept anything from you Hela. You just called me an idiot with terrible character flaws because I didn't like the same movie that you did.
If my posts annoy you so much, why don't you just ignore them in the future. I'll even show you how.

Didn’t you deny harassing Tran? Because I don’t call people ‘idiots’ for disliking movies, I call people idiots for being stalking and harassing people on social media.

But nice try.

And I’m sorry to break it to you dude: you totally have terrible character flaws. Everyone does. Even Jesus, the world’s biggest dirty hippie, supposably had a temper.

...

Oh fine. Everyone does, except Mr Rogers.

Or, y'know, actually making art challenging, which is exactly what it is supposed to be.

You're never going to please the SW fanbase, much like the ST one. We've literally had complaints ranging from "too familiar" to "not familiar enough", from "too predictable" to "off the wall and moving too far from the formula", from "visually moving too far into CGI" to "trying too hard to recreate the original look".

At least he is making a movie that actually means something and makes people think a little.

But as keeps being pointed out, this isn't a film criticism thread. It's a thread about an actress being harassed. You keep bringing the relative merits or lack thereof of the movie up.

Clearly you think the two are somehow linked?

Some people just have to see some things for themselves. I wouldn't have cared if the movie was getting zero tomatoes. Nothing was going to keep me away

See, now I'm one who won't be there. I still have some interest in the Story films, but I'm done with this particular ride.
I know J.J. is back, but that doesn't instill me with much faith. Just about everything he's been involved with from Lost to Star Trek to Cloverfield has had a habit of diminishing with each new installment.

I think we all remember Regarding Henry II.

Again, relevant how?

Yeah, not sure I buy that. I saw the movie twice. And I know a lot of people in real life who really enjoyed TLJ and very few who were meh on it. But that just might be the circles I travel in. At the same time, it sold fairly well on video topping the charts for a few weeks and I believe is sill the highest selling movie for this year.

Edited: I'm wrong. Its the third highest behind Coco and Thor: Ragnorok. With 1.9 million units sold, that's still impressive. By comparison, for all of 2016, TFA sold 7.4 million units and for all of 2017, Rogue One sold 4 million units. (Also, to be fair, this only takes the week TLJ was released on home media into consideration. Looking at those numbers alone, TFA sold 4.1 million units to Rogue One's 2.2 million.)

That, of course, is your choice. I respect it, even if I don’t agree with you.

I would wager a few quatloos that the strongest critics of the SW franchise will be in line to see the new film, if only to have something to complain about.

There's a lot of sick people online and the worst thing is that they're everywhere.
Sadly I'm starting to realize that there are at least a couple here.
I never said she should have to put up with it or that those animals should have sent disgusting messages but this is a culture on the internet that has been going on for a long time and it's not going to change anytime soon with the likes of facebook and twitter in charge. Quitting social media because of nameless assholes is going to make them think they got want they wanted and they'll move onto their next victim. When people have the anonymity of the internet to coward behind they should be ignored because these assholes don't have the guts to say it in real life.

You've obviously never actually been picked on or tormented. I spend pretty much all of my time in school being picked on and teased, and whether it's online or in real life, it's not always easy to just ignore it.

If he's an asshole than pretty much all of the creative people out there are assholes, because I see creators say this kind of thing constantly. It's not necessarily about wanting to piss people off, it's about wanting to create something that people react to, that sticks with them, and gets them talking and thinking.

Are you kidding me! They are going to be like that scene on "The Simpsons" with Comic Book Man after seeing the latest "Star Wars" movie. Calls it "Worst Movie Ever" and the goes and watches it 5 more times, maybe that same day. Not so sure about the hardcore sexist though. I'm not sure how many of them even care about SW and even the ones that do I think they are content to watch it just the once. Got to seperate normal nerd critics from the critics who are waging war on the internet to "Make America Great Again" which can be hard because they latter know how to hide their hate through arguments that seem to not be poltical on the surface. Of course who really knows when you get down to it. It's hard to predict how people are going to spend their money. Remember they can also just as easily watch the movie for free by downloading it off the internet while it's still in the theaters. Why invest money into something you want to destroy when you can get all the needed details for free in making your attacks feel legit.
