TLJ Actor Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico) Deletes Instagram After Abuse

It’s. Just. A. Movie.

Entertainment. Flickering pictures. You don’t have to love everything Star Wars. I love Star Wars but there are things I don’t like in just about every entry in the saga. But at the end of the day: I know I can’t change these things. Honestly, none of us, unless we get hired on at LFL can. I respect the idea that we think we own part of this saga. We’ve put in hours upon hours watching, reading, thinking about Star Wars. It’s there to enjoy. Or not. Why do we as a culture have so much entitlement that we think we can change things? Can’t we just enjoy what we enjoy and if we didn’t, leave the rest to everyone else who may have liked it?

Is that so hard?

Yes, it is. It is treated as a personal affront. Which is frustrating and irritating.

It takes on a very personal level and that's the hard part. You can disagree with Johnson, but wishing him ill will and hatred, including death threats and job loss, is taking it too far.

Did I say compliment it if you don’t like it? Say your piece, which has more than been done, then move on. Why is that so hard?
Because hate is easier than moving on.

And It's getting a little played with all the people in here crying that it's just a movie; Fievel Goes West is just a movie.
This is Star Wars and if you really felt that way you wouldn't be in here.

Guess what? I really didn’t like Rogue One. I think it’s overrated. Do you see me posting daily about how much I hate John Knoll, Gareth Edwards and Tony Gilroy and wish they were dead because they ruined MY view about how the events of the crawl from ANH played out?

That’s right. You don’t. Why? Because I said my fucking piece. And I moved on.

I appreciate Rogue One for what it is. I know it has its fans and I respect they have the right to enjoy it. But it’s far from my favorite. I don’t blame anyone for it not resonating with me but me. I don’t think anyone should lose their job for it. I just don’t think it’s that great. And for me, that’s okay. If that makes me a terrible human being or someone with no taste, so be it.

Unfortunately with how fast things move on the internet and social media these days everyone feels like they have a right to vent.
It gives people the power to immediately vent their opinion moments after leaving the theater.

This is no different than the school bullying problem. Someone spreads a lie and it catches like wildfire.

This bullying has caused someone to leave social media. Maybe that's why some celebs don't engage in social media because they'd be distracted by all the type of comments they get

Congratulation certain Star Wars fans. You harassed someone off social media. Hope you're happy

>_>

I think we’d be in pretty good shape if people just vented their opinion after leaving the theater. TLJ came out six months ago. The venting has certainly not stopped.

But hate makes you powerful. I learned that from Star Wars

Yeah, he ended up in a bottomless pit. I don’t take him seriously.

And apparently we aren’t going to win this war by fighting what we hate. But by saving what we love.

Also Star Wars. :p

As horrible as it is, the title of this thread says it all. Some fans hate this movie to it's very core and will be more than happy to express that opinion at any opportunity, anytime, anywhere and apparently anyhow.
It's the new normal. May as well get used to it or learn to ignore it. Otherwise, you'll just wind up making yourselves crazy.

Following Tran on Instagram was a highlight for me. She wore her heart on her sleeve and documented her rise to fame as TLJ came out last fall. Her posts were very bubbly and enthusiastic and a lot of fun.

When she joined Instagram it was following on the heels of Daisy Ridley's departure from Instagram for similar disagreeable matters: getting hatebombed and harassed by 'fans.' I was hoping she wouldn't eventually suffer a similar fate as Ridley... who has since quit all forms of social media and gone on to say publicly that social media is bad for one's mental health.

If you're a celebrity and you start reading things on internet about yourself or looking into tabloids you'll probably go crazy.

All those crazy rumors about your weight or character portrayal weighing on your mind will cause you to lose focus and not get work done.

It will drive them insane. It's no different than bullying

The problem is, half the time they’re encouraged to keep social media accounts. Nowadays, it’s part-and-parcel of networking and building your brand.

Which is fine for bigger, established, and more affluent stars/execs, who can afford to have minions handle that sort of thing.

For everyone else who has somehow come to wide public attention? It bites.

But hate makes you powerful. I learned that from Star Wars

It leads to suffering, my man.

I haven’t read all the new novels yet. Is it’s still EU canon that Vader was literally power-nerfed from turning evil and getting shoved into the suit?

(Star Wars: The Height Of Subtlety Since 1977.)
