Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

Anyone hungry?

This was a lot of fun! I spent Memorial Day Weekend crafting all the necessary dining and food items to depict a very small selection of the cuisine aboard the Enterprise. I am by no means going to create a full menu, but I wanted to add at least the food items we see on the show. I had to hand-replicate the pattern on the napkin in Photoshop, since I could find no better reference for the pattern online anywhere. I browsed hundred of fabric patterns online, to no avail. The "food cubes" were, of course, melon pieces that were sometimes dyed with food coloring, but I stayed away from making them look exactly like melon, as I prefer their "what the hell were those things" look ;)

Please keep in mind that Unreal Engine doesn't shadow smaller items very well, and I've done cheap lighting builds for the following shots. This explains why some of the items don't appear properly shadowed, or shadowed at all.

Snack Tray, seen in "The Man Trap" with first season food cubes and alien celery:

Chicken Sandwich and Coffee (buried underneath Tribbles in "The Trouble With Tribbles). I should note here that I bought a high-quality model of a chicken sandwich online and made a game-ready version of it:

Food Cubes (seen throughout various episodes in TOS, seen here in their second season depiction)

Vulcan Plomeek Soup (seen in "Amok Time")

Chicken Soup (seen in "Tomorrow is Yesterday")

The only food items we see onboard the Enterprise that I didn't get around to making was the salad seen in "The Corbomite Manuever" and the ice cream we see in “And the Children Shall Lead”. I couldn't find a suitable model of a salad online for purchase, and I for one am not about to model a salad myself at this point. I'll keep looking ;) I’ll get around the ice cream when I create the various glassware seen throughout TOS.

It should be noticed I used Greg Schnitzer's photos of the TOS-style silverware he owned as reference:

Next up: the glassware of the Enterprise!

!

THANK GOD - We've finally found your limit :)

In awe, as ever

Darkened the Plomeek soup and upped the saturation of the purple as well. Increased the metallic value of the plates and trays. Added some thickness to the napkin covering the snack tray. Did not cut off the crust yet, even though I agree with the suggestion that crust-less bread would be more futuristic. I'll investigate how difficult that will be since it is a third-party model. I've fallen ill over the weekend and may take a week off from working on this project as a healthy break.

Ha. Yeah right. I'm sure I'll resume work in a couple days once I'm feeling better ;)

I'm raising a Saurian Brandy to your health, Donny ... milk the down time, enjoy the rest, and come back with even more amazing images!

I'd like to add a vote for keeping the bread crust. This is a reproduction of an idealized chicken sandwich. Who's to say that the model used wasn't of a sandwich made using traditional methods. On top of which, Kirk is shown as something of a traditionalist. He likes real books. He knows about dipping girls' curls in inkwells, and about propping buckets of water on open (non-automatic) doors. He's a modern man who also enjoys aspects of the past. Who's to say he doesn't prefer sandwiches made just like Mom did back on the farm in Iowa, with bread from the local Amish roadside stand? :D There isn't a bakery somewhere on the Enterprise creating loaves for the Captain's sandwiches, unfortunately. But they can recreate them just the way the Captain likes!

Take care of yourself, and give yourself time to really recover. I'm sure ideas will be percolating, ready to spring forth when you're ready to produce more awesomeness... :techman:

@Donny, take care and rest and as everyone is saying, take time to really recover. :techman:

I knocked all this glassware out in a day

I didn't feel like posting reference for every one, so I made this handy reference guide explaining where each of these glasses can be spotted:

I start on the various liquor bottles tomorrow!

That is the most perfect thing I've ever seen. I will never watch this scene the same again. :guffaw:
Thanks! When you said you weren't feeling well, I had a feeling that you wouldn't stay away long. I hope you're feeling better now!

I was wondering Donny, will you be modelling any of the alien objects such as Nomad for instance?

I knocked all this glassware out in a day

Don't drink the milk!

The rest however, look delicious. I never realised how many different designs there were! I really love those little glasses next to the milk; Corbomite Manoeuvre?
