The tech is still in its infancy right now but I could see this tech eventually leading to Cylons or Borg: https://www.teslarati.com/biohybrid-robots-merge-living-tissue-machines/
I saw a video a while back about a robot with some rat brain cells and it was doing the maze thing that flesh and blood rats do. Kinda creepy
I will look it up. I watched it around 3 or 4 years ago but I'll see what I can find. I found 2 videos on this topic Got to love the comments for each video..... So many people thinking it's a full rat brain.
I would think the non-hysterical and pragmatic outcome of this research would be in creating lifelike serviceable limbs for amputees. It's the tech of being able to wire up a brain to control a machine driven device. Not to extract a complete living human brain and insert it into a full fledged robotic suit of mechanized armor.
Yeah, but aren't the scifi horror what-ifs more fun? There's other interesting possibilities for being able to control machines directly with your brain as if your own limbs. Bomb diffusing? Firefighting? Repair things in space without having to put people there? Any other variations of "Doing stuffs in places it's hard to safely put people"? Or, Battlebots where your brain is the remote?
It's rudimentary at this point. I envision absolute direct full neural integration, as if the limb was your own but made of non-biological materials. Sort of what we saw in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes back, regarding Luke's hand replacement.
Ah...... OK that would be kind of cool. As long as you get 360 wrist rotation just to freak people out. Deus Ex is much along those lines too.
