This thread is about all things Imperial.

In Solo, the Imperial Army was featured. I could be mistaken but in the movies, this could be the first time that the imperial Army has been featured. Usually we would see Stormtroopers fighting for the Empire. We could say that the stormtroopers are like Spaces Marines who serve on Imperial Naval ships and Imperial Naval bases.

While the Imperial Army existed to take out enemy forces and occupy territory. They conquered new territories while the stormtroopers dealt with Rebels within the former Republic, now Empire.

Well thinking about it, General Veers could be from the Imperial Army but it was not mentioned in the movie.

Then how do you explain his army rank and the fact he was commanding ground forces?

Since he was commanding stormtroopers, i assumed that he was part of the Stormtroopers Corp.

In real life, Army Generals don't command Marine units at tactical or at operational levels. General Veers looked like he was leading the stormtroopers at an operational level.

It looked more to me like he was leading the AT-AT assault, given you actually see him in an AT-AT cockpit.

When the objective of destroying the shield generator is achieved, he informs Vader who then commands stormtroopers in taking Hoth base.

During WW1 the 4th Brigade of the US Marine Corps was commanded by an Brigadier General (James Harbord) of the US Army during the Belleau Wood campaign.

The only stormtrooper we see is an officer that Veers orders to prepare to enter the base. Veers is basically a cavalry commander, leading the tanks in, while the troopers themselves are commanded by others on the ground, including Vader.

I don't think AT-AT drivers count as stormtroopers.

I've never seen an Imperial soldier that wasn't some form of stormtrooper in armour. So, this is all new to me (and presumably to this film).

Just because they have armor, I don't think that makes them all stormtroopers. That seems to be the standard Imperial body armor, even the Jedi wore similar armor during the Clone Wars.

Well, the point remains that this is the first time we (I) have seen any Imperial troops without armour. So, it was rather strange, and it made this film not quite fit in with the standard SW universe.

Timothy Zahn novels really go to town depicting all the different types of Imperial soldiers and troopers who aren't stormtroopers.

I just find it weird that the Imperial March is now in-universe music.

The Imperial Army and the Stormtrooper Corps have been differentiated in the EU and other media before. So, it wasn't altogether surprising and was pretty cool to see rank and file soldiers.

It has been for years now.

The first canon in-universe use was in Rebels Season 1, but it was also in-universe music in the old EU.
