Things that frustrate us all

Even minor fender benders mean that they were either driving too close to the vehicle in front or too fast for the conditions and thus unable to stop in time. Yes things can happen quickly but the more time you give yourself by either driving slower or having more space between you and the vehicle in front the more likely you are to prevent a collision in conditions such as those.
I absolutely agree that everyone was driving too fast for the conditions. I was just pointing out the range of it. You'd expect there will always be some people a bit negligent in a flash snow or ice storm and end up with some minor impacts, but others were going way too fast and ended up creating "crash clusters" risking the lives of others.

When it snows or sleets, all bets are off on "trying to save time" getting somewhere. Top priority is to keep traction, so you go slow and extend anticipation of traffic and turns hundreds of yards ahead. Space between cars needs to extend 3 to 5 fold above 10 mph. In all the years I've driven, I've never had an impact with another vehicle in snowy/icy conditions. In first few years of having a driver's license, I slid partially or fully off the road a couple of times and learned plenty enough from that to always abide by "snow means slow". If someone is driving too close to me, I'll pull over and let them pass--don't want to risk them smacking into me.

The only place I've ever seen it posted, was on freeways with speeds of 55 or higher. It'll say something like you can go as low as 40 MPH; meanwhile, you're in a 65 MPH zone.

Personally, I'd rather have a person 35 in a 45 than 40 in a 65.

I've lived in Canada for 20 years and here for 15, I'd say you really can't tell the difference most of the time, but both have some little goods and bads. I feel in Ontario they're actually so much better at snow removal, unless things have changed since I moved away? :)

Generally, the snow removal around here isn't too bad, on the roads anyway. I can't really complain about that. (The sidewalks are sometimes a different story, though.)

But if it only snowed twice in a decade, removing it would really be something you'd need to worry about much! ;)

Is it just over here or has there been far less snow (and starting much later) in your countries, too?

At least where I live, the last few winters have been milder with less snow... it's been pretty nice! This most recent winter was a return to classic form, though. And of course, then the press runs all kinds of stories saying that "Canadians have gotten soft, and can't handle a 'normal' winter anymore". That's totally not true in my case... I could never handle winter!

Here in my state, it's illegal to go 10 MPH or lower unless otherwise posted. People have actually been pulled over for going under the speed limit.

Strictly speaking there is no minimum speed for most roads in the UK but you can be done for driving too slowly.

In Britain you can be done for things such as causing an obstruction or impeding traffic, but you have to be doing those things by driving slowly. driving slowly, of itself, isn’t an offence.

A different frustration. Picking up a flier for a event that would be nice to attend, only to find its in the past. Twice.

True, but when we talk about slow drivers it's because they have impede us and other road users. But even if you aren't impeding anyone else by driving well below the speed limit, you could draw attention to yourself to say a cop car in the other lane who might decide to investigate why you are driving slowly i.e. under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

For example I was driving home from work this evening and was behind someone doing around 30mph in a 50 zone, Sure it was 23:20 so not much traffic around, but I didn't feel safe behind him as he strayed into the oncoming lane several times going when going around corners that are easy 40-45mph corners.

Yea. Ended up doing a malware and spyware check and it came up ok. Thinking its related to the unplugging and/or Windows 10.

Can relate on this one. I remember when I was in high school when I had to use my backpack to keep the door closed. And add in lack of soap and a principal who said that people mis used it so they didn't have to refill it. Let her know that it's a public health violation to not refill them. She was a real piece of work.
I've noticed that lots of public park facilities do not provide any soap in the restrooms. I wonder how that works.

Funding? Frankly... though I said what I said to the principal since she was an idiot. I was pretty much calling her bluff. Had to get it filled somehow.

Maybe they're afraid that some stupid idiot will try to eat the soap and then sue the city for not putting up huge signs that say "DON'T EAT THE SOAP".

My guess: they ran a budget and discovered it is drained fast and the city no longer wanted to pay for the homeless to have a park bath house. 98 cents adds up to book keepers.

my argh-moment of the day (and the next 4 days as well) is a mail I received today from the company from whom I rented serverspace. For security reasons they'll update all somewhat elderly scripts on their servers automatically on Tuesday.
While that's basically quite laudable, it causes me problems since I currently host 6 boards that all are heavily modified and run a slightly older software version than is recommended. A direct upgrade to the newest version isn't possible: I must save the boards and their databases to my harddrive, install the newest software version on the server, partially overwrite it with the old files and then overwrite all he database files with the (manually converted and purged) old ones. Gazillions of things can go wrong (and inevtiably will do so!) and I have only 2 days plus 2 evenings to finish 6 upgrades/conversions plus a six-fold bug-hunt.

I'm atm backing everything up and later today I'll do a trial run with a copy of the smallest and least modified board to get a feeling for the process.

A 4 weeks notice instead of a 4 day one would have been nice *sigh*

I feel your pain just reading this.

Hadoop. Mine only works like half the time, I miss Teradata.

Speaking of Teradata, how about...

Microsoft, and their whole embrace & extend doctrine. I've spent so many years on SQL Server, that now that we're starting to get more into Teradata, I'm finding that half of the things I normally do in SQL are all Microsoft-specific. Trips me up all the time!

Assholes being assholes for the sake of being assholes.

Where I am at there's a literal walking troll; he goes around spreading anger, hate, political lies, and on top of that he's a user.

Well, he sat down, some lady passed by him and saw a shirt he had on that has the U.s. Air Force logo on it. She was friendly and asked him what he did (which was nothing, by the way; he yaps and yaps about his life) and he laughed at her arrogantly and said, " I just bought this shirt."

Asshole.

Or this other douchenozzle a couple weeks ago who is always wearing a Navy hat. A couple stop by and say "Hi" and ask him about his service. He ignores them and the guy's stretched out hand to shake. The guy repeated it again, I guess thinking the douchenozzle was hard of hearing, and without even looking up or even an effort to be polite, the douchenozzle replies, "I don't want to be touched."

What a fucking asshole. He's not hard of hearing, he just purposefully ignored them.
He could have been polite, but instead that.

I suspect he's one of those stolen valor doucebags. I should report him to Don Shipley:

Or he could simply be mentally ill.
