Movie era reboot sequal

Because blockbuster movies featuring middle-aged people are a sure-fire formula for success?

Tom Cruise, Jason Stathem, Bruce Willis, and Daniel Craig seem to do pretty good.

Not that I'm all gung-ho to see Middle-Aged Kirk in a film. Though, if the rest of the cast were young, it would balance out.

And it should be pointed out that Chris Pine is turning 40 in April 2020, so technically we'll actually have a middle-aged actor playing Kirk soon, regardless. ;)

^ But some actors will always be associated with particular types of films. A script is written and pitched to actors that fit that requirement, so if someone like Jason Stathem was to even be considered then it would be fairly obvious what sort of direction the scrip was going in. Unless he's cast as an Elaysian, then that might be an interesting angle for him.

Mindless action comes from the writers, not the star. He just drives the vehicle, as it were.
Incorrect and an oversimplifcation. Certain actors are expected to fit certain roles, and are largely remarked upon when they break out of their niche markets.

They can break out of their mold and stretch. That's what good actors do and what makes them remarkable.

Obviously there were a lot of references, nods etc to the movies in ST09/ID/BEY but really they are a big budget updating of TOS in regards to the whole design, look and feel (uniforms, equipment, nancells, sound FX, lighting, logo etc) so perhaps for ST4 or QTs Trek its time for a big budget updating of the original trek movies, esp now the 80s nostalgia is in full flow with 80s heavy SF style stuff (Thor3, IT, BR2049, Last Jedi, ReadyPlayer1). Maybe set it in the post 5 year mission (so we'll see them at the time we never did in TOS - after the mission, just like the way we never saw the characters come together/begin the mission in TOS but did in ST2009) or post TMP/pre TWOK era.. not saying the crew will be decked out in TWOK uniforms with Pine sporting thick black curly hair but the uniforms could be more of that style (and have similar field jackets) the look of the Ent A bridge could be less bright apple store/more TWOK, the Ent looking more sleek TMP nacelles style (whos to say the ENTA wont have had another refit when we see her), the FX/sound FX of the warps/beaming/phasers/photons could be more movie style (e.g. the warp FX could leave that lingering magic rainbow trail behind, beaming more 'blue' style, phasers - long beams, photons – little orange stars), mushroom style spacedock with the massive blue lit interior housing all the ships (instead of the K7 style), and movie ships (Reliant, Excelsior, Grissom, Klingon BOPs) movie characters (Decker, Ilia, Saavik, Terrel, Kruge, Cartwright), more Horner-esque music etc...maybe use the movie font instead of TOS font on the posters/opening credits

Yeah, I don't see the guy that plays Stiffler in the American Pie movies, or Vin Diesel, doing any kind of dramatic acting any time soon. That doesn't mean they're not good actors; it only means that they are not suited for those type of roles.

Statham won't be playing MacBeth any time soon. Cruise, Willis and Craig could, though. They'd all make fine Captains. Statham, not so much.
