It seems there is a reason for the visual reboot and the producers aren't being honest about it.

OMG. I remember the blue Golden Gate Bridge. I forgot about Hillary, lol. Eeevil universe indeed.

The horror!! LMAO
Best reply post ever! Thanks.

To the discussion above. How about they admit the 25% is meaning it feels not like the TOS universe. But I bet you they'll argue it's not the Kelvin universe where the enterprise has lost its cozy bridge feel for glass..glass! Everwhere! Yea..cause I wanna crash with that deal going everywhere! Who the @$#! Thought that was logical? It's 25% different. In another universe maybe the producers of that show got that 25 percent right, but in this version of reality, they did their 25% to me, in all the wrong places..setting being the first big problem. Writing being another.I don't care for another yester years series. For me, a much better place to have jumped off from and given the 25% it seems to me the future of TNG universe would have been a no brainer. But hey, what do I know just another life long fan of the series and collector Esquire. Cheers

Writers are entitled by the WGA basic agreements to residuals for their work and payment for its reuse. This applies to writers who are employees on a project as well. Artists generally have no such agreement and are not - and yeah, I think that sucks.

Right, of course - different unions. I had forgotten to take that into account (despite having friends who are in a couple of different entertainment industry unions).

Hey, you know what would be cool? If anyone working on this show:
  • Had any apparent interest in doing that; and/or
  • Had any fucking clue how to do that.

Sadly, neither is true.

That's pretty hyperbolic even for you. Seriously, at it's core 'Star Trek' was about a ship and crew in space having adventures and encountering new/strange phenomena. Occasionally, they had an episode that had some social commentary. In that vein ST D fits right in.

TOS started by getting a number of its scripts from l;literary science fiction authors; but by the thirs season that really was not the case any longer and TNG pretty much became your standard 1980ies 'social drama' <--- the only difference being they were on a spaceship and not a family in an apartment.

Star Trek has never really been high art. Occasionally every ST series (although I can't speak for ST:VOY because I never saw one of the caliber I saw in other ST shows in it's first season, which is all I pretty much watched of it) had an episode that really showed/used the premise well and that includes ST D.

As I said, I stopped watching ST:VOY after the first season and while I have caught and watched some later episodes it never clicked for me. That said, I never hung out on its discussion boards railing against it. Sure I'll take pot shots or express my feelings if someone brings it up in direct comparison to a Star Trek series I like in that series discussions; but I would go into a fan board of ST:VOY and just start shitting all over it.

Does ST D have it's problems and some things I wish they'd done a bit differently? Yep. However I can say that about every Star trek series I ultimately enjoy. ST D fits pretty much in with the rest of the ST series overall, even if I don't agree with some of their design choices; and If it really gets to a point where I don't enjoy it, I'll move on - and go watch something I like and leave the show for the fans it has that do like it. But that's me.

I guess I'll never understand why someone feels the need to disparage something just because it's not their type of entertainment; rather than just moving on.

Hmmm...
I'm curious as to how much of the fandom has embraced STD and how much of the fandom has elected to ignore it and watch other options like:

The Exspanse
The Orville
Lost in Space
Krypton
Or any other sci-fi series not requiring a CBS access payment on top of cable, netflix, and Hulu..

I cut my subscription. I really didn't need it. I watched Discovery, but I'm not in love with it or have an affinity for it like VOY, TNG, DS9, and sometimes starting with season 2 ENT. I really felt frustrated with season 1 of ENT.

Because media criticism is enjoyable, and because it's way, way easier to describe why you don't like something than why you like it.

Even episodes of shows that I really enjoy, I find if I have some "live comments" upon them right after viewing, I typically write something along the lines of "It was good, but they did X, Y, and Z wrong."

Why do I feel like his opinion would be 180 degrees different if he was in the writers room...............#envy

Expanse--watched it/liked it
The Orville- Is ok......feels like TNG with the numbers filed and dick and fart jokes, but some ok episodes
Lost in Space--Never watched original but I quite like it.....pace was a bit slow and I hope it gets another season
Krypton--No desire to watch
Altered Carbon--gets my nod for the most original and enjoyable new sci-fi series

AND I watched and enjoyed DSC..........We CAN watch multiple shows......I will also be seeing Solo on the 24th....I'm crazy like that.

Loved LiS. Krypton is doing some surprisingly interesting things with the property.

Apparently I need to check out the Expanse.

I'ts not like there's any logical OR there. It's pretty easy to watch both DSC and the Expanse, isn't it?

And why would anybody watch Krypton?

Meh..not interested in Solo or any other Disney Star wars product. They've destroyed the franchise as far as I'm concerned. But enjoy, if you like it. Nothing wrong with that. Just not my thing anymore.

Well true. But it's money and content for me. And the content in STD isn't appealing for me to justify the exspence As for Krypton, heck yea it's actually really good.

I'll not understand this point of view. Destruction implies something has been lost and is irretrievable. Discovery doesn't affect my enjoyment of TOS any more than the ST diminishes my enjoyment of the OT.

Can't wait for Solo. I'm not a huge SW fan past the second movie - the one everyone insists is the "fifth," now  - but this looks like fun.
