Star Trek Discovery: The Future is Definitely Female

Sadly, we got a preemptive attack on Earth in ENT when the Xindi test probe kills 7 million people and yet a lot of fans couldn't stop bitching and whining about that and how it didn't and still doesn't make sense.

I wasn't around for ENTERPRISE during its run beyond the initial 8 episodes, so I missed out on all the bitching and whining during the Xindi arc. Watching it years after cancellation, the Xindi arc felt like a needed shot in the arm and I assumed a lot agreed that it was an improvement over what had been delivered by Berman era in the last few years. And yet I guess people still complained as heavily in the third season as the first during its run?

It'll be interesting in later years after DISCOVERY finishes its run to hear newcomers' thoughts on the show, as the whining and bitching will no doubt be focused on whatever new Trek show is running then.

There are still fans who nitpick the Xindi attack and arc and say the whole thing was ridiculous, as if every other plot point in Star Trek before 2003 was a scientifically-plausible, rational decision by writers who were working with the top minds at an Ivy League school to come up with the greatest science fiction ever broadcast on American or even global television.

In hindsight, I think the Xindi attack should have happened very early in the first season. The show was in need of such a "shot in the arm" almost from the very beginning. For the most part I found seasons 1 and 2 insufferably uninteresting.

You don't test a nuke by nuking the place you wanna nuke with a smaller nuke! :p

Maybe the second one was really just going to be test two and the idea was to give an objective comparison?

Maybe the real target was somewhere else all along....

Maybe you don't.

Did we just go full action movie one liner conversation?
I think we did.
I think we just did that.
Lock and load, and suit the heck up...in primary colours, because this Summer, TrekBBS is going...back to Prime. Mary.
Or something.

A bad advertisement for Star Trek Discovery? Or maybe ST Discovery is really for women audience and not for men? If so, I don't mind. I still can find another show that is more man audience oriented or at least neutral for both gender audience.

Seriously? This bothers you as a man to the point where you'd boycott the show?

Am I boycott the show? Why should I boycott the show? I don't say any bad thing about this show. I just said that this show MAY aim for Women Audience and not men. So what wrong, as a man, I aim for a show that target for men audience, or at least neutral and can be accepted by both gender audience? Am I sexist? It's up to you, I don't care. For me "The future is definitely female" is a sexist statement, but it's me. Females have their own pride, I don't mind with that; as long as they are not yelling to my pride as a male. But usually, a show with that kind of "One Gender Superiority" is aim for a specific gender Audience.

But honestly, that statement "The Future is definitely female" is a sexist statement that is not good for the aim of Gender Equality.

Well, you're not short of shows "aimed at men", certainly, although personally I'm rather happy with a show which endeavours to make some small redress on the current massive imbalance. Female empowerment isn't currently about maintaining parity, it's about playing catch up on the existing inequality.

I'm not convinced we should read too much into this statement though to be honest, it is one statement amongst thousands and should be taken in the context of those and the show as seen.

I suspect it’s just a vaguely punny headline designed to stir interest. DSCs intended audience is mixed.

The bold one : You're right. Maybe I was too stirred up because of the statement. It was not fair for STD to be judged just because somebody wrote like that. I'm sorry then. I honestly don't mind with female main lead in STD. The problem is only that statement of the OP in this thread.
