CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Indeed! 'Voir dire' I'd never even heard of. IP law, IP lawsuits&lawyers, IP rulings, even how lawsuits work & what they're often used for was only vague to me at best. A whole new world in film dialogue, especially in TV, has opened up for me. I watch one particular show just to listen to them say all the court and jury words.... because I know wtf they're talking about now and this stuff is extremely to me.

And I am honored to have met you, dmac, and those other talented folks during this time. At times thiswholething has .... has been .... in understatement, disheartening. Balancing that is the joy I've found being introduced here in this thread to writers and producers of fan films&fiction&audio Trek and their work. My world in fan productions has broadened past my widest previous imaginings.

Talk about your silver linings. Thank you thank you all who keep making all this stuff without me even lifting a finger except to 'click', and just serving it up for my/our viewing/reading/listening pleasure.

Hunh. I hadn't though about that.

Yes, dmac. For me a degree that brought heaviness to my Star Trek heart.
My dad being an old Navy guy, it quickly became a family event to sit around and watch The Lieutenant.
Back then you watched when it was on as there was zero guarantee it would ever replay again.
Dad was also a bit of a science fiction fan so after the Lieutenant was over we went to the movies a lot until Star Trek's first episode played and guess what? Many of the same familiar faces we were used to. Dad had to get up a few times and get the old black and white working again on our first family Trek.... so it was off to Montgomery Wards for our first color TV. I was like 8-9nyear old and the first prototype remote control, proficient at channel navigation, tint, sound and roll....lol.
I think it's safe to say that most peoples "true" Trek is developed upon their initial exposure to it and that's where I received mine. Some one out there is jumping up and down claiming Discovery is the only true Trek ever created. It's okay, I've gotten over it.
By Jr high one of the neighbor kids, Terry had all the basic film equipment. His father did some local news stuff and helped out with putting are fun little Tarzan movies. I was the kid that could hold a cat and swing from one tree to the next so I got a lot of film time.
Our most epic production called for a dam break and Tarzan (and his malamute) were to save the cows. We built a dam across the creek with an old garage door. after 3 days of waiting we backed up water all the way nearly to the old highway. It was going to be perfect and we packed up the next morning and headed out to film only to find the corps out there draining our lake. News camera crew, lots of army trucks, bulldozer, pumps and traffic control.
Terry pulls out his tripod mounts the camera, pulls out the mic and starts an interview to a couple adults walking over to see what we were doing there. Thankfully I was behind the camera because I wasn't keeping a straight face at all and I had my Tarzan tee shirt on.
Needless to say, that one never was filmed but in a way I can relate to Alec's dilemma.
Terry's dad caught on to who did what in a heart beat and our film days along with Jr High were over.

Decades latter running into fan films did catch my attention and it was just a matter of finding someone who would put with my antics.
Half the time I get to meet people with all these incredible skills and the other half shocked because the same thing that brings us together also rips us apart. If that's the vision of the future, perhaps we should be required to consider what vision we're attempting to convey.

Well anyone with a vision would do but Hollywierd doesn't work that way. It's who you know.

BTW - what happened to the money and the glory?

Just so you guys know, I'm stealing your posts for my new super awesome script.

postmortem of Axanar (Interlude sticker on script)
I don't have a problem with it. As always, you should probably check the licenses of the forums you use any material from, but I'm guessing it's not a problem for this one.

There really needs to be a sustained discussion about what backers can do about this, because misinformation aimed at discouraging backers from taking action is killing any momentum. There should be a sticky thread at the Axamonitor group that provides every piece of information a backer would need to file a consumer complaint, including links to complaint forms, a sample complaint that includes all of the contact info they'd need for Alec's businesses, links to court cases against crowdfunding rip-offs, a Q&A to combat misinformation, etc.

@Deeky4, I'd be happy to post just such a package of information on both the AxaMonitor main site and its Facebook discussion group. Do you happen to have a list of the information you named?
