Stupid Random Thought -- Is Star Trek: Generations kind of like 1986's Transformers: The Movie? They seem to have a ton of similarities, when you think about it. At least superficially. (If you're looking for deep analysis, you've come to the wrong place. This is just for fun!)
It starts with Captain Kirk & Optimus Prime, who both die heroically, and ends with Captain Picard & Rodimus Prime in command.
Transformers: The Movie jumps Transformers from the 20th Century to the 21st, while Star Trek: Generations jumps the Star Trek movies from the 23rd Century to the 24th.
In Transformers: The Movie, you're replacing the Pre-Movie Cast with the Post-Movie Cast. In Star Trek: Generations, you're replacing the TOS Cast with the TNG Cast.
In Transformers: The Movie characters are killed off for no reason, other than to make room for new toys. In Star Trek: Generations, characters are also killed for no reason and the Enterprise is "killed off" just so they can have a new one in the next movie.
Transformers: The Movie had Orson Welles, best known for the radio broadcast of War of the Worlds play in the main villain. Star Trek: Generations had Malcolm McDonald, arguably best known for A Clockwork Orange playing the main villain.
Hot Rod goes on a joyride with Daniel in tow, and Kirk goes on a horse ride with Picard trying to keep up.
Guinan is like Kup. The wise "elder".
Starscream wants to lead the Decepticons. Lursor and B'Etor want to lead the Klingon Empire. All of them notorious for how traitorous they are.
