Sisko might have a falcon or something of that nature.
Maybe Odo would help look after the bird by going flying with him.

I'd honestly see Sisko with a cat. He's generally so chilled at home, and he seems so affectionate with Jake. I can just see him with that big smile on his face stroking a cat.
Failing that, a labrador he could play fetch with. I get why people are picking these tougher animals, but i think his pet would need to represent his softer, happier side.

You must admit though that Sisko enjoys punching people in the face. He did it with Q, Garak and other less memorable people.
Sure, but he wasn't just the man of action. In private, he was way more chilled than Picard. Very genuine, open, and warm.
I'm reminded of an "interview segment" between Groucho Marx and a "You Bet Your Life" contestant. The contestant, who raised Rhodesian Ridgebacks, explained that they're "a lion dog." To which Groucho replied, "Well, I'm a lyin' dog, too."
I would not call Picard's lionfish "dull." You don't call an animal armed with potentially lethal venomous spins "dull."
Kirk, of course, would have a horse. I think that's been made quite obvious. And given that one figured prominently in her first vision quest, Janeway would have a tokay gecko.
And of course, the Abramsverse Scotty has tribbles, and O'Brien has a pet tarantula.
Re: the suggestion that Sisko would have a baseball, well, let's not forget what happened at the end of Duck! Rabbit, Duck, when Bugs declared that it wasn't really rabbit season or duck season, but baseball season, and Elmer completely lost it, and started taking pot shots at a baseball.
But I really have no idea what kind of pet Sisko would have.
A lot more punches than Picard, but a lot less than Kirk. Watching TOS I sometimes wondered why a starship-flying phaser-firing culture needed to use fists so often.
And much less awkward around children... except for the ones that were on the planet that he ordered Worf to bomb. I imagine Sisko trying to justify himself to one of the kids...

Why not, people are attacked by their pets, sometimes. A neighbor of mine once entered his house holding a pile of bags (and that means that his head wasn't visible). His dog (a rottweiler) didn't recognize him, tore his pants and wounded his leg... He got rid of the mutt and opted for something much less aggressive, a labrador.
Now I got this mental image of mirror universe Sisko getting in charge of Terok Nor (yes, I know MU history went differently) and forcing Odo to be his falcon pet, just for his personal amusement ....
It might have been better than what we had.
