Yeah, as great as it would be to see baseball back in Montreal, the stadium issue will continue to be the primary blocker.

I think there's a certain mythos around "paying your dues", but that is ridiculous.
It's fucking sickening how transparent a scheme MLB is running with its minor leagues (for all that Kenesaw Mountain Landis did to destroy farm systems, he'd be proud of what owners have pulled off here). Young athletes with no representation whom owners have every interest in making as financially uncomfortable as possible, so they can make cheap as shit contract extensions look that much more appealing, and the entire system is set up to juuuuust pay them enough to scrape by against the skin of their teeth if everything breaks right in their favor and they can couch-surf or they have kind parents. You're not a blue chip prospect lucky enough to have a competent agent and not have dumb little issues arise during your physical so you could make bank on your signing bonus? Fuck you then, here's a single rotisserie chicken for the entire fucking clubhouse to share, that'll be $11, please.

Even if Olympic Stadium were demolished, there's still a significant issue: Montreal's economy, while not in the absolute shitter like it was a year ago, still has a long way to go before it gets anywhere near the neighborhood of full recovery. As a result, there is massive resistance, both from the population and on the political side of things, towards public financing of any kind towards a sports stadium. And given that the Expos were drawing about 10,000 fans per game for the last decade or so of their existence, private investors aren't exactly champing at the bit to build a stadium on their own for a baseball team that potentially no one would come to see.
Maybe they can rehab Jarry Park.
