Feline Follies

Mila finally sat still. Photographing after feeding looks like the way forward.

Thought I would share with all of you kitty (and puppy) fans something that you might not have seen before.

Back in the 60s there was an artist known as 'Gig'. I don't know the whole story, but if you google 'Gig Pity' what returns is all of this neat artwork of sad kitties and puppies with big, soulful eyes. They were known as 'Pity Kitty' and 'Pity Puppy'.

Well, circa 1966 a company used some of the images for making cylinder lamps. They are paper, with 3 image panels per lamp. There were several versions. My uncle gave me one in the early 70s. Mine had the first two images that you see here, but not the third. In place of that panel, mine had the one in the last image and had that front and center with the switch below it just as in that image.

Seems like they didn't make a ton of them, as they are quite scarce today. The paper was also quite easily damaged. Plus, you had to remember not to install a bulb of too high wattage because of the heat.

Mine is long gone, but I have fond memories of it and hope to have another one at some point. It's just recently that I found the information about them.

Enjoy! :) :

Nothing more genuinely unnerving than watching your foster cat clean her paws as she lies on the bed next to you, her toes spread, claws extended, looking directly into your eyes as if she has taken hold of your soul.

And then she rolls onto her back looking for belly rubs.

Hugo - gonna be hard letting this one go

^^^ Yeah, that'd be pretty unnerving, but I think I can top it. How about looking at a black cat sitting on a dark blanket in the shadow and he yawns so all you see is his white teeth and red tongue & inside of his mouth?

Heard a horrible news story about this guy's house burning down here locally, on the radio today. All the cats inside perished in the fire. Another house fire a few days ago also had reported the pets died as well.

OMG, it's the Margaret Keane of pet pictures!

(Her husband Walter took the credit for those famous paintings of big-eyed waifs, but it's now acknowledged that she was the actual artist.)

I woke up with Glasgow asleep on my right shoulder this morning and he looked so cute so I slid my hand as gently as I could to my nightstand to get my phone, clumsily opened the camera left-handed, and snapped some pictures of us. I think the series sums things up pretty well.
