Spoilers Bonus scene from Season One Finale

A "bonus scene" has been released from the DSC season one finale. Maybe originally intended as a post-credits scene? It takes place well after the episode, it seems.

So far I only see it on twitter, but I imagine it'll percolate elsewhere fairly quickly.

My initial reaction:

Oh, for God's sake.

.....ugh.

Fuckin' REALLY?
How supidly fanboy-ish is this shit going to become even more?:brickwall:

Well, at least we know where the Black Badges came from. Honestly, I'm kinda disappointed that they left it out if just because it's the payoff we needed to the mystery of the black badges on Discovery.

That said, it is kinda pandering. I've never been a huge fan of how 31's been portrayed after DS9.

Why is that so bad. A little internal federation struggle never hurt anything. Especially with Georgiou in the mix. I like it.

We need someone familiar with Terran tactics to help combat her infiltration into the federation leadership ...... someone like .... a certain Captain Lorca making his way back from the Terran empire mirror universe.

Though maybe the Badges are a cover. They're pretending to be a legit organization, or they infiltrated one.

Section 31 was also in ENT and -- it should be noted -- Star Trek Into Darkness. DSC is just something else it's appearing in.

My issue is less that it's appearing (though, Jesus, there are other bits of lore to mine, and more appropriate ones than 31 for "Starfleet Intelligence, but all badass-like"), and more that DSC seems to be following STID's lead in retconning Section 31 from being a small conspiracy or cabal to an all-but-official government agency. At this rate, we're not too far from seeing an establishing shot of Section 31 Headquarters in San Francisco with a big bas relief seal on the front inscribed with a latin motto about how awesome war crimes are.

At least they're finding something for Georgiou to do. If she's going to be here, they might as well make use of the character. And, like it or not, Section 31 is right up her alley.

Section 31 in Into Darkness was still pretty hidden. Kirk and no one else on the Enterprise seemed to know about it.

God, I hope so. But at this point I wouldn't trust these numbnuts to come up with an original idea if my life depended upon it...:sigh:
Good thing your life doesn't depend on it.

Also, while it strikes me as odd that S31 would have badges like that (insert joke here) I also thought it was cool that they decided to recruit her and give her a purpose. I mean, why not?

S31 always operates somewhere between the shadows and full black ops style. Sloan is able to connect with Admiral Ross with no problem, and takes on several cover stories, as well as Admiral Marcus being fully aware without anyone else knowing about it.

I always viewed them as Starfleet Intelligence operatives who have that part of their job that they "don't talk about" just like real world military units.
