Babylon 5

I really liked Terry Farrell and hated that she was leaving, but I still liked Ezri right away. I think the difference, for me, was that Nicole de Boer can act. Scoggins, on the other hand, really can't.

I agree about how great Scoggings was in season five...she's actually one of the better parts of the season, and when given character moments to shine---she absolutely comes through---especially her scenes with Micheal as mentioned above.

It's always interesting when people complain about the acting on B5 when they're (the actors) actually just surrounded by scenery-chewers. Lochley was a thinking character (in contrast to Ivanova, a shouter) as was Sinclair. For me, Scoggins main flaw was that she couldn't carry off humor very well.

Oh, I think Claudia could do subtlety and humor quite well.
The really bad actors that I noticed were generally the one-shot background people, like that tourist mother in down-below with the little girl who's ball Franklin picked up. There was a lot of "stage" acting among the extras.

Humor I definitely agree with. Can't remember much subtlety to her character which isn't any reflection on her abilities. She played what was written.

I never felt the acting was particularly bad, but it had its moments. Watched falling toward apotheosis last night, it begins with a young lady looking for her husband in a crowd, she falls over, and Sheridan helps her up and clears a path. That was awful.

The same episode had Bryan Cranston as a ranger.

I remember being impressed by the character Bryan Cranston played without realizing who the actor was until many years later. Suddenly it all made sense. :)

There was a lot of bad acting, no doubt about that. For instance I always cringe in Endgame when the female officer confronts Franklin about the morals of using the telepaths as weapons. She was really, really bad. The budget of the show probably affected the the casting choices sometimes and for the better or the worse they went with lesser known faces. When there were people like Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa in Convictions, I always felt like those were missed opportunities because even with minor parts they were really good.

You can bad acting even in shows with bigger budgets.

Damn, I wish he'd turn up on Trek. Pity that DSC's time frame is too late for Kodos the Executioner...

Watched "Thirdspace" for the first time in years last night as it was on TV, it was definitely the weaker of the TV movies

Oh, I think River of Souls was the low point for the movies. Unless Tracy dressed like a hooker does it for ya. And it does.

It does for me, too. I met Tracy Scoggins at DragonCon a few years back. Still looks gorgeous, and quite friendly.

I love the story of when she did that episode of DS9 (Destiny)...she had so much fun playing a Cardassian that she would walk around the studio grounds, in full alien makeup, and ham it up for the tour groups. Thus the security guards had to keep calling in and going "Could y'all keep your aliens contained over here?"
