    *I'm in Canada

So I got a new phone last week and reached the stage where I was downloading the digital copies of some movies. When I went to download Beyond it wouldn't let me. When I looked closer there is now a message on the bottom of the film selection saying "Playback Unavailable".

I've emailed Paramount asking for a Google play code to replace it but right now it appears those of us in Canada (at least) may not longer have access to bought and paid for digital copies.

Anyone else in Canada able to check if their UV copy is playable?

Edit: Paramount replied confirming they no longer support flixster and said to connect to another UV supported app. In Canada there is no other currently UV supported app ever since CinemaNow left. I've reiterated my request for a Google Play code.

See, THIS is why I own physical copies of my movies. I know at any moment, someone will get a burr in their butt over some kind of copyright/licensing issue, and I'll lose access to movies I paid for. I hope you're able to get it sorted out.

Same here. My favourite movies (and Beyond is one of them) I always have physical media. Netflix, Spotify etc are all worthy services but you can't beat owning your own movies.

Yeah, there's no way I'm going back to the 1970's and allowing content providers to dictate when I can access my favorite shows and movies. Physical media for the win.

I agree with everyone here that the potential for losing all of "your" movies, shows, albums, what have you, should encourage people to invest in physical media.

Having said that, this isn't your fault @wayoung. There's an expectation, a not unreasonable one, that the things we pay for, digital or otherwise, are ours (not including Netflix, Spotify, etc.) But there's an underlying dishonesty in any corporate sellers' guarantee that your digital purchases are truly yours. They're only yours insofar as the seller maintains licensing fees and whatnot, and that you have both a device to access that media and whatever app is required to play that media on that device. A blu-ray disc only requires a player and a tv. A good old-fashioned book only requires eyeballs. Etc.

I bought a Magnavox Profile 1.0 Blu-ray player back in 2009. No enhanced features, no internet connectivity. Still plays everything I throw at it.

FYI, I have the blue ray digital copy combo pack. I still have the blue ray. I spend a lot of time in emergency rooms and hospitals, hence my desire to get digital copies of films along with the physical media.

I've still got an original 'fatboy' PS3 from 2007 in my bedroom. Plays everything and hasn't missed a beat.

I usually read or play Sudoku or Triple Town when out for a long time. I never got into watching TV shows or movies when out.

Could always just figure out how to rip the files from the disc and put them on your phone yourself.

You can convert a DVD/Blu-ray into a smaller digital media file and take it with you on your mobile device. It's small enough to where you can easily carry a handful of films without eating up storage space, while also not having to rely on internet wherever you are to watch them.

I just bought a new 40" Samsung 4K TV for the bedroom. I had been struggling the last couple of days about whether or not to get a 4K Blu-ray player for it (already have an Xbox One S in the living room). I plugged in my old 2009 player into it and started watching "Arena" and figured I could ride with it a while longer as it still does a great job.

Yep. I have a Phillips BDP5005 Blu-ray player from 2009, and it works flawlessly. Since my TV's a 32" 720p HDTV, and everything on it looks sharp and clear as crystal, there's no reason to upgrade anything.

My first HDTV was a 720p set. A Westinghouse, that we got in 2006/7. It just recently went to the great TV showroom in the sky.

Mine is a Hisense, and was a Christmas gift from a few years ago. Before that, I had an AOC 19" 720p from 2009, and I loved it to death.

When we first got ours, there wasn't much in the way of HD programming available. I'd record Sunrise Earth off of HDNet every morning so I would have something to watch.

I had antenna, and our local NBC affiliate had just gone HD. I remember channeling over to 5.1 (their station), and seeing this brilliant, beautiful image, and just being floored by how far technology had come. Now, of course, 1080i is quaint. Hell, I remember being blown away by DVD when it came out. No wobbling! No static! No rewinding! And look at that high definition picture!
