3D Printed USS Discovery

My partner and a couple of her coworkers have access to a 3D printer at work and made a few models of the Discovery. She brought one of them home and let me take a paintbrush to it. It's a little rough, as I'm a bit out of practice, but I'm hoping that if she's able to do another one, maybe at a slightly bigger scale, I can do a bit better and also work in some aztecing, and registry numbers, and other detail work! Pardon my crappy phone camera:

Thanks! Really just the cost of paint for this one, so all in all not too bad. Not sure what it would have been if we'd have had to pay for resin haha.

I like that a lot. The haters of Discovery can say what they will, but it's an interesting design and your model greatly reinforces that fact.

In December of 1979, when I went to the local mall to see TMP for the first time, I was hoping that one of the stores would have model kits of the refit Enterprise. They didn't have any yet. I didn't end up getting one until the kit for the 1701-A came out for TVH. At that time, I played around a bit with a bash of the Ent and a Klingon battlecruiser and it was not so very different from Discovery in general appearance. It made me think of the graveyard of ships in the animated episode and what might have been done by someone in scavenging parts from a Connie refit and a Klingon D7.

Looks good, the nacelles are definitely more accurate than mine. I've wanted to get an SLA resin printer, but the cost of the resin still seems too high for me.

Make some more. ;)
