Spoilers DC's Legends of Tomorrow - Season 3

Praise Beebo, the Legends are back! :D

Well that was a fun return, Legends are really on form this season. Constantine fit in nicely with the team, a decent (hopefully not final) goodbye to Leo, Mick taking a holiday and being in charge at the same time, and lots of small funny moments (A duck? ) sprinkled throughout.

Any guesses what the sixth totem will be?

Gideon switching on privacy mode for Sara there at the end... I guess the ship is also shipping Avalance. ;)

Any guesses what the sixth totem will be?

Good question. I guess they've officially retconned the Isis medallion as the Zambesi Air Totem, even though it looks entirely different from the Air Totem shown in Vixen season 2, and even though that's really limiting Zari's power set compared to Isis's control over all elements at once. (But maybe they're planning an arc where she ends up absorbing all four element totems, leaving only the Spirit Totem for the Vixens, plus whatever the sixth is.)

At a guess, since the element totems give control over inorganic matter and the Spirit Totem gives the power of animals, maybe the sixth totem allows controlling plants. Although that seems an underwhelming power for a secret bonus totem. It's probably something more overarchingly powerful...

Oh. Duh. What show are we watching? I bet it controls time.

I don't think this schedule expansion decision will have any effect on the network's reluctance to risk oversaturation by having more than four superhero-comic-book-based series airing simultaneously.

They barely managed to do that now, if Black Lightning gets an expanded episode order next season it's gonna be nearly impossible not to have 5 of them on at least some of the time.

I suspected that before this was announced. The surprise that he is not in next week's episode after originally reported he would be in two. I was going to post Monday that maybe he will be back later in the season and forgot to do it. They certainly seem to set up him having a role in freeing Sarah of being possessed. Though that scene between John and Ray at the end made me wonder if that advice was setup in case Matt Ryan was unable to return.
Well, he was in the last scene of the episode before this week's, so he technically was in two already.

Not really. They can hold one or more of the series for midseason and air them into the summer, even if they're given expanded episode counts.

"Bloody 'ell, ya bloody wankuh." I only saw a couple of episodes of Constantine back when it first aired but Matt Ryan feels like someone exaggeratedly cosplaying a character rather than inhabiting a role. The unnatural blonde hair and perfectly unkempt shirt and undone tie don't help. I know he's a fan fave but I have trouble buying the character.
Agreed. I find his whole "deeply tormented, but also a wisecracking, oh-so-British smartass!" shtick obnoxious.

Despite how well done the demon possession scenes are done I'm not real crazy with this stuff in Legends, just doesn't feel right but we'll see as the story goes on. Some of the possession contortions were quite effective but it's a bit too Supernatural for me.
Agreed again. Demon/possession stories inherently bore me, and mixing them with LoT's time-surfing goofiness doesn't much work - it's like mixing beef stew with peppermint ice cream. I find it telling that the writers saw fit to basically remove Mick, the Legends' unlikely beating heart of the show, from the mix to make the story work even to the extent it did. Overall, I found the episode okay, but not much fun.

I like the portrayal of Constantine, but I find he is written a little bit too bland/nice-guyish. He's supposed to be a prick, He's supposed to be the ultimate con-artist. He's supposed to have no qualms sacrificing his friends to get the job done. This guy is just too...nice.

He let Sara get possessed by Mallus in order to get back to the present, right after sleeping with her. He let her believe she had the willpower to drive the demon out, even though he probably knew it wouldn't succeed. That seems like a pretty no-qualms sacrifice to me.

In his own show, I think he was softened a bit and made a bit more heroic compared to the comics; he still did some pretty crummy things to his friends sometimes if it was needed, but he did have qualms about it. And he was trying to do good and help others in hopes of saving his own damned soul. I'd say his portrayal here is reasonably consistent with how he was there.

I will have to disagree here--Sarah knows the consequences and in many ways she is more like Constantine in the comics--if that had happened to one of the more naive characters I'd be inclined to agree with you.

The issue isn't Sara's personality, it's Constantine's. Another character might've refused to let Sara go through with something so dangerous, especially right after sleeping with her. But John isn't that sentimental.

In the NBC show (which is the version this is a continuation of), Constantine had his moments where you saw what kind of dark things he was capable of, but they didn't happen in every single case. All his old friends/acquaintances who kept showing up loved to talk about how badly he'd let them down or screwed them over in the past, but they usually ended up more or less making amends, if they didn't end up dead. I think the NBC show was going for a middle ground -- he used to be like the comics character, but now was trying to be better, if only for the sake of his soul. He could still be manipulative, treacherous, and deceptive, but usually to serve a greater good, or at least stop the evil of the week. So maybe by now he's gotten more practice at being a halfway decent bloke, at least when it suits him.

Anyway, apparently he will have a return appearance on LoT; maybe he came off so "nice" here so the Legends will be taken off guard when he screws them over next time, or something.

All interesting points. I would prefer to see a version of Justice League Dark or an equivalent DC mystics show in the Arrowverse. And I would love to see this version of Constantine on that show.

Well, Zatanna's the only Justice League Detroit member besides Aquaman who hasn't been featured in the Arrowverse yet. I wouldn't mind seeing her show up.

The amusing thing about the animated Justice League Dark movie is that, even though it was set in the animated movie continuity that's been ongoing since 2014, it was doing its best to feel like a sequel to the Constantine TV series -- bringing back not only Matt Ryan as Constantine but Jeremy Davies as Ritchie Simpson, and using a main title theme and graphics that resembled those of the Constantine TV series. Although it did present an incompatible version of Felix Faust, played by Enrico Colantoni instead of Mark Margolis.

Happy Beebontines Day! :D

Is that original? You gotta share with the CW!

New episode tonight:
Here I Go Again
After the team returns home from a mission, Zari finds herself trapped in a time loop that results in the Waverider blowing up over and over again. Zari soon begins to suspect that the answer to stop what is happening might lie hidden among her fell shipmates secrets. But in investigating them, she begins to understand her place on the team.
CBR's pre-episode interview with Tala Ashe.

They should have had Barry dropping off Big Sir in the distance while Rip was talking with Wally.

I was a little disappointed that the 70s outfits were just window dressing for the Groundhog Day story. At least we got Caity Lotz's Instagram video out of it. Nice character building episode for Zari but another take on the Groundhog Day story brings an ironic sense of deja vu (I know that's missing some accent marks...), unfortunately. FWIW, they wore it on their sleeves and even used the movie as a communication shortcut.

I do like that they've built up the humor around Rory to the point where even just silently closing the door can be a highlight though my favorite moment was the deadpan "My beer's in there." when Zari activates the force field.
