Is there an extraordinarily long one?
Random question, but I just started VOY Mortal Coil and it's a full 6 minutes 44 seconds before the credits roll.
 
DS9 often had teasers in the neighbourhood of seven minutes, but yeah, there was a recent Disco episode with something like a fourteen minute teaser, which is almost certainly the longest one in the franchise.
 
Ah, that's pretty looooong for a teaser. I'l get to DSC someday and DS9 too. Makes that Mortal Coil bit seem puny by comparison!
 
Don't know about the longest, but I seem to remember Enterprise's “Impulse” having the shortest teaser in Star Trek history.
 
A little bit off topic question: Which series has the shortest and longest opening credits?
 
Actually, I'd like to think Disco is definitely the longest opening credits.

The Discovery main title sequence is 1:30. According to my CD track listings, the TOS main title is about 0:50 in the first season and 1:00 later on, the TAS main title is 1:00, the TNG main title is about 1:45, DS9 is about 1:55, VGR is about 1:45, and ENT is just under 1:30. So DSC is actually right in the middle, fourth-longest out of seven.

STAR TREK: VOYAGER has two episodes that have extremely short teasers... "FACES" and "SCORPION" (first part).
 
Enterprise has some damn short teasers too. At times, I kind of wondered why they bothered with teasers as they rarely contributed anything to the show.

I kind of liked the way that ENT's first season tended to do slice-of-life stuff about the characters rather than having everything be plot-driven. Sure, sometimes it made things feel a little unexciting, but it gave the season a distinctive character, and it reminded me of the early first season of TOS and its emphasis on the banter and relationships of the supporting ensemble. ENT season 1's approach reminds me a little of M*A*S*H in some ways, though not as well-done.
 
I don't know, at times it felt more like they were intentionally trying to make the teasers shorter and more meaningless. Or even more frustrating, when we see the Xindi attack, this is meant to be one of the show's defining moments that arguably sets the tone for much of the remainder of the series, and all it is is a forty second CG sequence. Or throughout the third season, Impulse's teaser is literally just twenty or thirty seconds of T'Pol screaming as she's strapped to the biobed. Or Zero Hour, where the Xindi-Reptiles talk their evil plans while eating mice.

I remember when the third season aired, me and my sister had a thing going on, she was watching a show that was on at the same time as Enterprise, and I would show up after Enterprise's teaser and credits were done to inform her of such, and almost always her show hadn't even begun its credits yet.

Nope. Enterprise's Impulse is :19 & Voyager's Scorpion Pt 1 is :21.

Yeah, I think they must've had a mandate to keep it under 3 minutes. There's maybe only 2 or 3 just over that. Most of them are under 2 minutes & a good deal of them are under 1.

It really depends on your opinion of what a teaser should be. Like many aspects of Star Trek writing, it got used in a variety of ways. Some times it's not being used to further the story at all. Take Yesterday's Enterprise, which has a story that doesn't feature Worf hardly at all. So the teaser does. Sometimes it benefits the story, sometimes it doesn't, but it does benefit the overall series or characters' development, & sometimes all it really has to do is tease us

I actually like some of the shorter ones. Cause & Effect is just the last few lines of the loop's conclusion. Chain of Command is literally "Hi Admiral. Care for some Hors d'oeuvre?". "No thank you, but I will take your ship instead.". The general idea is that by the teaser's end, we should be thinking, "Oh shit", whether it's a creepy little "uh oh", or a big fat, "OMFG"
