All they really need to do is show us a Constitution class we never saw before.

Then it could be a refit of a type we also never saw (eg: TMP Enterprise).

We've seen the Enterprise, Constellation, Defiant, Lexington, Excalibur, Hood and Potemkin. That leaves 5 or 6 other Connies we could see.

This of course assumes they care about what the 1960's Enterprise looked like at all. If the Klingons and their ships are any indication, they do not.

I think ultimately the design will be something "new," but the closest comparison will be the Ent-A in BEY.

I would personally be fine with that, but to be clear, I have not seen the new Connie for DSC. Only been told about it. I have no idea what it looks like any more than any of you. Sunday will be my first look as well, if my sources are accurate.

I like it mostly, but the nacelles hoods are based on what little was visible in the teaser for Star Trek (2009) and are purely Kelvin Trek. The John Eaves or Defiant wireframe nacelles would be a nicer alternative. The hoods are also echoed in the secondary hull, which gives it a seemingly pointless overlap. This could be easily changed.

Agreed. It was also too big to be a port nacelle fin (compared to the starboard one).

Those notches on the saucer, I'm not even sure what they're for and the (whatevers) in the pylons were really the only other odd things.

No doubt, and the Reliant has/will have something similar. The issue is those things are a departure from the overall look of a Connie class. But again, with this design crew, you never know.

I buy the Terrans having made some modifications to the Defiant, so those couple of things could be MU only.

My money is on the added pylon "hinge" on the Defiant is actually a torpedo launcher or something of the sort. I'd also bet that the cut outs in the saucer are for added weaponry. You know these bloody Terrans wouldn't settle for it being the most technologically advanced ship in their universe. They'd have to arm it to the teeth. They would probably see the quantity of weaponry as insufficient even though it was much more advanced.
