"Krypton" coming to SyFy from David Goyer

I'm trying to figure out whether or not David Goyer's original statements that Krypton is set in the DCEU remain true. Does anybody know one way or the other?

Not for sure, but I'd say the involvement of present-day characters like Adam Strange and Brainiac, not to mention the reported involvement of some version of Doomsday, makes it unlikely. It will probably have certain elements in common with the DCEU while not being in precisely the same continuity -- which is what has historically been the norm for TV series spun off of movies, like Planet of the Apes, Starman, Alien Nation, or Stargate.

Supes' cape in the trailer has a yellow S on it, that's different to the DCEU version of the logo (and DCEU Supes' doesn't have it on his cape at all)

I think it's inspired by that version of Krypton, but no more. I could be proven totally wrong, though.

I feel like this is overestimating the market... Having a gazillion strains of shows at the same time dilutes the brand and confuses people. Unlike the Berlantiverse which can help pump up different audiences I think this will make people pick and choose and limit what time they spend watching.....

This show is set in the generation of Jor-El's father, so this Jax-Ur may be an ancestor of the Jax-Ur we know. That's not how Kryptonian names normally work, I know, but maybe he was named after her.

They've released a picture and behind the scenes video for their version of Brainiac. It looks like they're sticking very close to the version introduced in the 2008 Brainiac story. Looks great to me.

It's the most impressive-looking thing I've seen from this show so far, both authentic to the comics and effectively reinterpreting it into something more intense and striking. The whole business of Brainiac shrinking cities and putting them in bottles is intrinsically pretty silly, but they've actually made it look like serious business. (The spherical shape of the "bottles" reminds me of the Superman: TAS version where Brainiac stored the accumulated data from the worlds he'd destroyed in energy spheres, rather than physical cities in bottles.)

Well, even if I think it will probably be the worst DC show in recent history, at least the people who are making Krypton did a google image search for Brainiac. That's more then Supergirl did before they paid a blind goldfish to design Brainiac 5 for their show.

This seems visually/tonally distinct to me from the CW shows, it'll be interesting to see how it turns out. Its very existence seems a bit odd but I guess Superman has enough recognition that even an odd offshoot has pulling power over dipping into adapting more niche DC properties.

I don't see it as that odd. It's basically taking the Smallville/Gotham principle and going one step further. And there have been quite a few comics over the decades exploring Krypton's past. It's also similar to Caprica, from the same network. It's kind of a natural fit for Syfy, especially since that network is trying to do more space-based shows. Given that they don't have the budget to show Green Lanterns soaring around the cosmos on a regular basis, what better DC-Universe alien world is there to base a show around than Krypton? There are other prominent alien worlds like Rann and Thanagar, but neither of them is as well-known as Krypton (though both Adam Strange and Hawkwoman will appear in the show).

Some interesting stuff there, including new footage and story insights. It definitely resembles the Man of Steel version of Krypton, since it's David Goyer's show, but it looks like it's drawing on ideas from all over the comics. It seems promising.

A minor annoyance in the editing of the special is that when they were talking about Timm animated Superman series, they mistakenly showed footage from the Superman: Doomsday DVD movie, with its distinctively ugly Superman character design.

It can be. In one of the previous DC continuities (hard to keep up, there's so damn many), Seyg-El used to be Jor-El I.

given show and movies are often voted down on rancid tomatoes before they've opened/been broadcast because some fanboi is pissed that it's not what he wants I think we can safely ignore it.

After all Krypton doesn't start until 10pm and it's currently 9:30 eastern (and no parts of ContUS uses Atlantic time) the show hasn't even aired.

Professional critics get sent early copies, so most of the legit critics have already seen it.
