News Ursula K. Le Guin has died at 88

I remember a TV guide interview with her, and she mentioned she was a big Star Trek TNG fan and loved the Darmok episode.

RIP

*sigh*

Big fan of The Lathe of Heaven. Such a great story and concept. There was a really well-done PBS adaptation of the book back around '79 or so. Despite a low PBS budget, they did an excellent job, IMO, of capturing the essence of LeGuin's writing and characters.

I thought there was also a more recent TV movie version starring Ethan Hawke but I can only find reference to a 2002 movie starring Lukas Haas. I must have dreamt it.

This one, maybe?

That is the 2002 movie but no Ethan Hawke as George Orr.
My memories sometimes don't line up with reality. The Flixborough chemical plant explosion occurred on a weekend not a Friday and 41 additional people weren't killed. The Duchess of Kent is thankfully still alive and didn't die in the 1980s.

Maybe, they will tomorrow?
Probably less so - the falibility of human memory being what it is. The alternative is to believe I'm remembering a timeline that has been altered, which seems fanciful and too much like the plot of Year of Hell.

I guess I might well be mixing the 2002 movie up with Gattaca in my memory.
