What sports do our heroes play?

Bashir and O'Brien play darts...it's a sport too, god damn it! ;)

Far be it from me to argue with people holding sharp pointy throwing objects! ;)

Would spaceship racing over a predetermined course (shuttle/delta flyer) by Lt. Paris qualify as sport for the purposes of this thread?

Sure, why not!

Harry Kim was on the JV volleyball team in Jr. high

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Picard probably played polo, being a horseman. Equestrian is a sport, and he definitely did that.

Makes sense. At a guess, since he's an amateur archeologist, he probably knows something about spelunking, too.

Thought of a few more canon sports myself. Tuvok was an instructor in archery. Torres and Chakotay played something called "hoverball" in first season; we don't learn anything about the sport but the dialogue seemed to indicate that Torres was the better player. Janeway and Seven played something called "Velocity." And Janeway had likely taken instruction in ballet at some point, since she did the "Dying Swan" for a talent competition on Voyager. And I think we saw Wesley Crusher go skiing at some point?

Pavel Chekov: has the height & build of a jockey.
Hoshi Sato: has the poise and agility of a gymnast.
Charles Tucker: competitive eating, if that counts. He's such a redneck.

Hoshi out of nowhere was suddenly a black belt in some martial art.

TPTB must have thought 'Hey, she's East Asian, so okay.'

I always pictured Prime Scotty as that type of bloke who tried to have a professional football career during his early years, only to give up and finally find his true vocation. Since his hometown is Aberdeen, maybe he joined The Dons Youth Academy or something like that. :)

NASHUTTLE is the NASCAR of the 24th century, except instead of driving in a big circle dangerously close to each other, they're flying dangerously close to stars and weird anomalies. And there hasn't been a NASHUTTLE race in history where somebody wasn't sabotaged by another racer.

Kirk was a rock climber. I bet Beverly Crusher could've done some competitive dancing, or gymnastics. Then there's fencing (Picard & Sulu) Picard was also apparently a marathon runner as a cadet, as well as a horse rider. As such, I could totally see him bicycling... like in his homeland's Tour De France, or even trying his hand at a triathlon.

I'd say that since most of them in Starfleet have extensive combat training, any number of them could compete in pugilism, wrestling or martial arts etc... The same goes for weapon shooting sports. One wonders why Riker never fenced with Picard (He even offered once) That ambu-jitsu stuff seems similar enough to expect he could do well at it... Dodge, parry, thrust, etc...

As for team sports, (like DS9's baseball stuff) after Generations, when we see the TNG crew's affinity for open water, I can imagine them all in a boat race, or even a rowing race. I'm pretty sure they'd be unbeatable with Worf & Data on the team lol.

The internet tells me that poker can be considered a sport. If so, then, most of the TNG cast are sportsmen. Except for Riker, of course, as he was unfamiliar with poker in The Price.

Worf played soccer but, in my opinion, he seems more like someone who should've played hockey.

I'm a Videographer and I primarily record sports for a living (even though I'm not a sports fan), and in ice hockey they play much rougher than soccer.

One thing that bothers me: Worf played soccer when he was 13 and killed that kid. It was tragic and all. But DS9 also showed us that an 8-year-old Klingon would be almost a full-fledged adult.

So, what the hell was a full-grown Klingon doing playing in a children's soccer league?! No wonder he was causing fatal injuries.

His mentality and disposition would make him a perfect inside linebacker. Discipline, read, run, destroy.

Can you imagine freaking Worf on skates??? :klingon: ;)
