From the Oklahoma region comes the third entry from Michael L. King's Starship Valiant series...well not completely, this is a limited-engagement advance preview of the forthcoming full release entitled "The Ties that Bind". Something to whet the appetite.
I like the look of the new, creepy-looking alien race here (finally somebody figured out that Klingons can't be everywhere in the galaxy). Were they inspired by Sam Raimi's Deadites? :)
Looking forward to the completed episode!

On the bright side, if I follow what's happening star/producer Michael King has already shot/in the process of shooting another episode (''Animus''), so I take it they are not letting the fan film kerfuffle stop them at all...(good on them!)
On the less than bright side: we will have to wait until 2018 to see the completed ''The Ties that Bind''

The make-up artistry is really good. I agree Star Trek's world is larger when fan filmmakers expand the universe with different threats and aliens, but be warned: CBS may steal your ideas, sue you, and claim they had the concept all along.

I really rather doubt that the network and studio people need to mine fanfilms for ideas.

nate did a great job on the succulon make up, and erin was a trooper enduring that make up. it was hot as heck on that set those couple of days but she did it. we were all sweating our butts off lol but the end result was great. every actor that was in this did a bang up job. i think thats what michael brings to the table, a level of quality and love to fan films that most dont. he knows exactly what he wants

Writers and creative people mine anything to prime the pump, whether it's the internet, articles, books, or short films. An inspiration for an idea comes from some place.

Everything is a remix. My point is that it's unlikely pro Trek people are watching fanfilms, let alone borrowing ideas from them. Fanfilms are typically very derivative and unoriginal to begin with.

    Hi Bibxy,
Michael L. King here. The problem that we are experiencing and have been experiencing for months is that Starbase Studios, Scott Johnson & Glen Wolfe are in dispute on who owns sets in the studio. Essentially the studio is defunct until this situation is resolved. We have nothing to shoot on until this thing is finished. It's frustrating for sure but our hands are tied at the moment. On a positive note, we are ready to go. I am so eager to finish this film that I feel like a phaser on overload!
I will say however that I appreciate you sharing the preview here and all of you watching. Hopefully all this drama with the studio will end and we can get back to our hobby.

    Hi Michael,
no need for apologies, I'm willing to wait a bit for your episode. But you have to admit Averoff's comment was funny in that kids' impatiently wanting something way...(we are only the first week of the new year :) )

    Thanks for the update!!

Unlikely doesn't mean some haven't watched them, and if one of them gets a good cred I'm sure they could easily get the link and simply click. I agree most fanfilms are what you wrote they are but if one is inspiring and have an original thought, it's open for the taking.

Mr. King, I appreciate your vision of a Trekfanfilm; have you thought about ignoring the guidelines and just make the films as long as 50 mins? From what I've seen, your version of Trek has a strong sense of direction.

People borrow from everything. And TV showrunners are far more likely to copy another TV show or movie (ahem, "Balance of Terror") than some fanfillm. So, possible, yes, but likely, no.

Here`s a new sign that this series still has some life in it...Not only `the Ties that Bind' is inching towards completion, but a second episode is also being worked on at the same time

The location photography will be a nice change. As much as I enjoy starship sets it will be nice to see some other settings.

Of course, "Animals!" as a title makes me laugh, because "Animals" was the title of what's widely considered the worst episode of Blake's 7.
