Jurassic World 2 (2018)

I'm hoping I'm not the only one looking forward to this!! I really enjoyed Jurassic World, so I'm hoping this one will be as fun a ride. I have no illusions that the sequels are classics like the first one was, but still, they are highly entertaining.

I am to. The BTS video especially did a lot to raise my enthusiasm. I was surprised to see so many of the dinos are animatronic.

Visually, as always, it looks amazing. Plot wise, it feels like Jurassic Park 3 with a flimsy reason to go back to the island so they can be chased by dinosaurs.

I would love to be wrong, but it looks like the extent of Jeff Goldblum's appearance is in a courtroom, which feels superfluous and seems like a waste of Jeff Goldblum.

Even one scene of Goldblum is better than none.

Plot-wise, I'd say it's actually closer to The Lost World but with the script flipped; now it's the dinosaurs that need saving instead of the humans. And given that (for the moment*) the only living dinosaurs on Earth are on that island, rescuing them from extinction a second time hardly seems flimsy.

Is it me, or did they give away a HUGE plot spoiler at 2:02? Because given what I know of that particular natural phenomenon, there is ZERO chance that character survives.

* Whatever did happen to Site B, anyway? Maybe Henry Wu knows...

That's certainly true. It just would've been nice if he was more directly involved.

Fair enough, it is closer to The Lost World than its immediate sequel. However, I still think the reasoning is poor. Why do they need saving? More importantly, where are they going to move them? How is any of it practical? I guess those questions will be answered in the film, but I don't know. It just feels like an excuse for the setting up to be chased around the island.

Nah. He'll be saved by movie magic. Characters have survived from worse.

The dinosaurs need saving for their island is about to go "BOOM!".

Based on the trailer, they lost many animals already when the volcano erupted.

It feels like thay retcon the island to have a volcano, something which it did not have before, for this story.

Well, I read the synoposis (see below). I was juiced for this film until I got near the end. :brickwall:

When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.

That looks stupid as fuck.

Oh yeah by the way we built the new Jurassic Park on a bloody island with a formerly dormant but now strangely active volcano.

Well let’s go rescue the fucking dinosaurs that we have habitually lost control of to the point they straight up kill people, what could go wrong?

Jesus.

The volcano's been shown on maps I believe since the first movie. The Telltale game explained that the park ran on geothermal power.

I'm kind of hoping there's more to it than just rescuing the dinosaurs from the vulcano, that is a nice way to get them on the island, but it seems a bit flimsy of a premise to base the whole movie around. The bit at the end of the synopsis about a conspiracy does make me hopeful there will be more going on.

Well, it's not just the new Jurassic Park, the old Jurassic Park was also built on Isla Nublar as well. So you could blame Hammond for that oversight :)

Also, it does make sense that it would be built on an island with a volcano, since in The Lost World, Ludlow states that Hammond ran everything on geothermal power, never to need replenishing.

Also, glad to see the T Rex back in ass-kicking form, after taking a backseat to the Spinosaurus and Indominus Rex.

That looks awful. Even putting aside how bad the movie looks (and it looks really really bad), the trailer is lousy. Bad pacing, bad choice of shots, odd tone...it's just weird. It feels like one of those fan-made tailers you see on YouTube – evocative of professional trailers, but off in lots of little ways.

My main thought watching this trailer was that one of the big things in Zallinger's famous mural The Age of Reptiles that has so far not been in Jurassic Park is an active volcano. Spielberg found a way.

I did like seeing a Carnotaur in there, even if it was the "show who's boss scene" victim. :)

I liked the trailer ok. Dinos -- Check; Decent story idea -- Check. It's the kind of film where I just turn my brain off and just try to enjoy the ride. And it was awesome to see t-rex come to the rescue. :)
