I meant to do this thread awhile back after the thread about the Top 5 worst seasons but didn't get around until now. I guess the question is straightforward so I will begin my list:
1 TOS season 1: It's the season that started everything for Trek. Kirk Spock and McCoy are at their best and the show is at it's most realistic in season 1 and Shatner's overacting which never bothered me isn't even all that noticeable for me except with "Enemy Within" but even then I don't care because I love that episode.
2 DS9 season 2: I know most people prefer the later seasons and those years are good but the show was actually at it's most gritty in season 2. The look presented by Marvin Rush is also when the show looked the best. I even got more proof by listing every great episode from that season.:The Circle Trilogy,Necessary Evil,Rivals,The Alternate,Armageddon Game,Whispers,Playing God,Blood Oath,The Maquis 2 parter,The Wire,Crossover,The Collaborator,Tribunal,The Jem'Hadar. That is 14 episodes but more if you could the trilogy and two-parter more than just one story.
3 TNG season 3:Everyone knows that this season is usually used as the example of when TNG got good and I got to agree. Even though I think season 4 and 5 is more consistent, The show finally nailed what worked for them and that was sci-fi procedual with improved writing and a dialogue that is kind of fun to listen to since it's didn't feel like late 1980's or early 90's speech. They also found their groove with Data by playing up his lack of emotions more.
4 Deep Space Nine Season 4: I liked how the show sort of reinvented itself, where as in season 3 it felt like they were trying to be a mix between the first 2 seasons and what would come in the later seasons. Worf worked well but the main thing is Sisko improved and finally became interesting in ways he was only really interesting in the early seasons and that was with his realtionship with Jake. Also by this time the secondary characters had become even more important to the show so you felt like you had lots of characters beyond just the series regulars to root for. Plus I liked the Klingons as enemies again even if was mostly just for one season. It felt big an like a game changer at the time since them being allies was a big deal on TNG.
5 Deep Space NIne: It was much like season 4 so I guess you could say it was just a extension of what made that season great.
Seasons that just missed the cut would be TOS season 2,TNG season 4,5,6 DS9 season 6,7 and Voyager season 1,2 and 4.
