Avengers Infinity War (and beyond) anticipation thread

Yeah, with these kind of stories you can easily kill someone off and then just revive them before the end. Is there a Spider-Man movie between IW and A4? If not then I could see them leaving him and any other victims who don't have movies between them dead, only to revive them in A4.

Spidey 2 is coming out in July 2019, after Avengers 4

The second Holland movie is after Avengers 4. But either way, as I said before, there's no way they'll permanently kill him off.

If I recall the mini-series correctly, Spider-Man is part of the large group of the universe Thanos kills in a blink of an eye to appease Death, but that's very different what's being suggested here.

I definitely think we'll get multiple deaths in 'Infinity War'. Not the scale of what we got in the 'Infinity Gauntlet' book, but shits gonna get serious... then Nebula will steal the Gauntlet in A4 and fix it all.

And not to get too ahead of ourselves, but now that Celestials were introduced in 'Guardians', I wonder if the Celestial/Thanos battle will happen in some form in A4 as well.

Yeah, that seems like a given to me, even if these two films are already not adhering closely to the original mini-series. I do hope we see Nebula have her moment of triumphant, though. I relish at the thought of Karen Gillan oozing her rage with the Gauntlet in her control.

That would certainly be a CGI-extravaganza. And hopefully it includes the final revelation that Stan Lee is actually a Watcher. ;)

I thought Stan Lee just worked for The Watchers?

Oh, there's no way they'll kill him off permanently, but I could definitely see it happening as a temporary thing. With something like the Guantlet involved they could probably kill off half the cast in IW and have everybody back before the end of A4.

I figure Stark, Rogers, Rhodes and Thor (or Loki) are all going to bite it in one of the two movies, most of them because their contracts are up (RDJ is on movie-to-movie but he's been making more and more noise about being too old for this). Maybe an ancillary character like Drax or, I don't know, Wong.

I would be very surprised if Cap survives the two films. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he and Bucky go out on a blaze of glory together that will forever fuel fan fiction.

Stark and Thor/Loki definitely seem likely, but Rhodes could go either way depending on Don Cheadle. I'm sure Marvel will be keen to keep an armored suit in action without bringing in another character (who else has regularly worn a suit? I honestly don't know).

Black Widow and Hawkeye wouldn't be surprising, but it would be disappointing if Black Widow dies before getting her own film.

The easy answer, comics-wise, would be that they replace Iron Man with Rescue (Pepper Potts), but I think that's unlikely given how much Gwyneth Paltrow has trashed her experiences with Marvel Studios. They might actually give Iron Man a rest for a while before doing something like putting Peter Parker in the suit.

The trailer was pretty cool. Not the most amazing one I've ever seen, but it was solid and got me excited for the movie (not that I wasn't already really excited).

I just realized we still haven't seen any pics of Pip the Troll (that is who Peter Dinklage is playing, right?) Hopefully he'll pop up in the next trailer or some article soon.

I don't think we've gotten any official confirmation who Dinklage is playing yet. Pip the Troll is just of the popular theories.

Unfortunately, the media has been reporting on the contracts of Evans, RDJ and CH for years, so we know they will not survive the Infinity War films. No Evans/Steve Rogers is a serious blow to this franchise, and there's no one capable of filling that void. All one needs to do is look at the "B" level characters to see none are stepping into that kind of presence and interest.

that will forever fuel fan fiction

Thankfully, most of that is ignored in the way the idiotic "Obi-Wan and Padme were secret lovers" fanfic were dropped in the "don't care"/"hell no" trashcan. :D

Black Widow and Hawkeye wouldn't be surprising, but it would be disappointing if Black Widow dies before getting her own film.

The problem is that there's no great moviegoer demand for a Black Widow film, and despite Kevin Feige's opinion that there would be a BW film, Disney/Marvel has never promised, or enthusiastically supported the idea of a Black Widow movie. She functions best in the supporting role she's played so far.

I don't think that it's a safe assumption that just because an actor's contract is running out that they're going to automatically kill off the character.

It's not safe, but it's an educated guess: Marvel initially balked at how much RDJ wanted in order to do Civil War until the financial department did their number-crunching and showed how much they'd make, and RDJ has been open about being willing to have the Stark role re-cast (or killed off); Evans was making noise for a while that he was done with the Marvel movies after his deal was up but then quieted down after he started making a lot more money with Age of Ultron and especially after his directorial debut went over like a wet fart--I think he's just tired of wearing a hairpiece; Hemsworth is absolutely done, etc.

Agreed. They may stop appearing, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be killed off. I agree that's unlikely that Evans, Hemsworth or RDJ won't renew, but I think everyone else could go either way.

I wonder if they could get RDJ back just as a CGI hologram/AI for a War Machine & Riri Williams Ironman torch-passing. A day in a recording studio for however many millions might be a tempting offer.

Teenage genius girl reverse engineers a suit of the now dead Tony, stumbles on some hidden protocols where Tony cleverly hid an AI of himself knowing that eventually someone would be smart enough to find it and that person would be a worthy heir to both his lab and mantle. It's not a fresh take but its plenty enough for Marvel to make something great, and it would be nice to see a more gender-balanced lineup for the next phase/era of films.
