James Franco to star in X-Men spin off 'Multiple Man'

Fox is in negotiations with James Franco to star in a movie about the Marvel Comics character Multiple Man.

The studio is also in talks with “Wonder Woman” writer Allan Heinberg to pen the script. It’s negotiating with Simon Kinberg and his Genre Films to produce with Franco through his Ramona Films with brother Dave Franco and Vince Jolivette.

Multiple Man, aka Jamie Madrox, is a character in the X-Men universe who received cloning powers at birth. In the comics, Jamie’s father, who works at the Los Alamos Nuclear Research Center, moves his family to a farm, where his son is fitted with a special suit — designed by X-Men leader Professor X — to control his powers. The suit malfunctions, causing Multiple Man to go crazy.

What a weird character to make a spin off movie about. Isn't there a DC villain with similar powers?

Why not go ahead and just make a X-Factor movie? Their 1990s roster in the Larry Stroman/Peter David run is classic! Havok, Jamie Madrox (Multiple Man), Polaris, Guido (Strong Guy), Wolfsbane, Quicksilver... Amazing stuff!

Maybe they're building up to it? Havok, Polaris, Wolfsbane, and Quicksilver have already appeared in or will appear in other films (and The Gifted).

Yeah, I know that's a long shot, but you never know. It's the stealth build up!

I'm not a huge fan of Franco outside of his really, really dumbass comedy movies. I don't know what it is about him, but unless he's being stupid in a stoner movie, he somehow really annoys me to where I say, 'Man there is way too much James Franco out there.'

So when I saw his name and 'Multiple-Man' in the headline I laughed to myself.

They should have gone all-in with the alliteration.

Magic Mike's Multiple Man Movie Mystery Meetup or Mike Myers Makes Multiple Man Movie Mean More

That was my first thought when I saw the headline. Unless this is a set up for a X-Factor movie, then this is a really strange choice for a movie. There are a ton of different characters who I would give their own movie long before Multiple Man would come to mind.
I wonder if perhaps this is only happening because Franco pitched something Fox really liked?

Whereas I'm the opposite. I cannot stand those movies, despite knowing they're suppose to be stupid. I really enjoyed his performance in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and he's great in The Deuce, where he plays twins.

I don't even like all his stoner movies, just a select few. And in the realm of my film taste, stoner movies are already a weird outlier because I have no interest in seeing them but when I am presented with one that I end up liking, I end up super liking it.

I loved Rise and Franco is great in it. He's definitely a talented actor but he wasn't a selling point for me to see that movie. John Lithgow definitely made Rise a good movie into a great one for me.

Didn't we see The Multiple Man in X3?

I know, I know... new timeline.

A cursory search yielded:

X-Men: The Last Stand
While Magneto rescues Mystique from a prison convoy, he recruits the other imprisoned mutants, including Multiple Man and Juggernaut. He served as a decoy when the government attempted to arrest the Brotherhood at their temporary camp. Although he is arrested again, it is uncertain if he was injected with the cure upon his capture.

When Fox was announcing they would be doing tv series set in the X-Men universe, my one hope was for an X-Factor series based off Peter David's Investigations run. Multiple Man, Richter, Wolfsbane, Strong Guy, Shatterstar, M. The entire run was amazing.

Not sure I'd go see a solo MM movie, tho.
