Is Discovery your new favorite Star Trek series?

So wait a few years and do the same with DISCO.
Do you think it will get on regular TV one day? I don't know what the contract procedures are like between paid TV and free TV. Regards Agents of Shield, I liked that pretty much from the get go. Seriously in another bunch of years I might binge watch Discovery, it there's enough to binge. Have to watch Enterprise first though.

I don't know what is there to enjoy in STD, other than its visuals. I'm in disbelief that some claim that it's their favorite StarTrek, I'm almost inclined to think that they're trolling. After so many dry years we got this low quality trash and many fans think that they're doing the franchise a service by finding something to praise it for. At this point I'm waiting for the next trek in like ten years.

Or perhaps people just have a different opinion to you, actually enjoy it and can see it's potential? I can only speak for myself, but i came at Discovery with an open mind and found something I enjoyed. It's not perfect but no star trek series was. Star Trek died in 2005 because people stopped watching it. For it to be successful now it had to change. I choose to embrace the change. Wait for the next trek series all you want but there's a good chance you're probably going to hate that too.

The new favourite rating of Discovery and even giving out tens for episodes is of course entirely personal and the right of the viewer. I could never be sure myself that rating a small sample of something against a larger body of something else was a proper rating. So I personally can just go by what I've seen.

Every episode (thus far) has been flawed by inconsistent continuity within, which is even worse episode to episode. It's a disconnect between a group of writers who don't have someone checking on the overall flow. Plot points that were critical the previous episode are just dropped for the new flavour of the following episode. Yet when Discovery does want to sell a plot it does with such embarrassing obviousness that we all know what's about to happen next. I knew Michael was going to be going on every away mission the moment she didn't (as if she was ever going to) complete her sentence. Ha ha.. the lead character in prison forever .. you're kidding right? This Voq/Tyler nonsense. If that pans out to be true it will more predictable sign posting.

Nine episodes in Discovery has done nothing original and used every Star Trek cliche already. Apart from the mirror universe and being alone in an unknown part of space.. yeah, like that isn't next on the menu.

This is not quality. It really is the bottom of the barrel, regards an answer to the thread topic.

As most have said, it's too early to tell. It's gone up steadily in my estimation since the first episode, and I already like it better than ENT. But then I like herpes better than ENT.

I assume at some point it will filter down onto regular TV. Probably when there's enough episodes to sell into syndication, or perhaps CBS will air it next year before season 2 starts to get more people to sign up to CBSAA. I'm so glad we get it on Netflix over here.

Why do you keep refering back to TNG Season One? ;)

Judging by your comments up thread I'd recommend just skipping it and finding something else to watch. It's clear that this isn't the show for you.

Free TV does make a difference.

I like my TV, lol. She's new and she's going to earn her keep. The other night Discovery hadn't streamed to the TV before it showed up on my laptop. No way I was going to watch it any other way than big screen

Oh, I use my television, just not for watching actual 'TV'. It's pretty much all streamed from my laptop or tablet via a chromecast, hence being glad Discovery is on Netflix. Sorry, I can see how my comment would have caused confusion.

I'm going to feel a little guilty in saying this, but my favourite Trek "series" are the TOS movies.

I don't really know where to put Discovery on my list of favourite Trek, because there's simply not enough of it (I need moar!) At the moment though I'm absolutely certain I liked it more than Voyager and Enterprise... If only because I felt interested in what I was watching.
