They talk a lot about it but in practice is a much different story, especially if they stand to gain something from it.I am pretty sure it's a plot point in TNG that they do...

Exactly. It's not about better or worse. Especially in this case.
I cite this video as an example - specifically, the scene near the beginning of the video where Lorca and Mister Satan or whatever his name is (I still can't make out the engineer's name clearly; it's like the actors slur it whenever they say it) are hollering at each other about the spore drive not working: .
The dialog feels forced and awkward; the acting barely above the caliber of a fan video. Was this done intentionally to make the characters seem "relatable?" Or is it an homage to Enterprise, which I've been reminded by a fellow forum-dweller followed a similar acting template?
Sonequa; My quibble with STD is her name. Totally weird is the operative word. She was raised on Vulcan and a appropriate female name would be more of way to distinguish her unique individuation. Or amI missing some precept about Vulcan's naming non-Vulcan females
She already had a name. You cannot expect this acting to be at film level where it has a time limit and where the timing and delivery of acting has to be utter polished. STD is going in a divergence from previous series. I like STD's style compared to previous series, faster pace >> gung ho style, with probably plot twists in the future that may possibly raise the "caliber."
