Familiar faces crossing over

Oh my cock. He accused Discovery of "hurting Star Trek on a metaphysical level." What the actual fuck does that even mean?

He/they've started slapping "Discovery Reboot" in big, angry, orange text over anything they don't think gels 100%.

Also, +1 for "oh my cock". I'm going to use that one.

Another possibility: Samuel Cogley?

I got the perfect choice to play Cogley: Eric Peterson.

Cogley is very Oscar Leroy-like in his character, and Peterson's played a lawyer before...he was the head of the law firm in Street Legal (which, at last count, had almost every actor in Canada on the show at one point or another).

It's particularly hilarious that he happily dismisses the TMP Klingon visual reboot as inconsequential because an episode of ENT years later 'explained' it. Doesn't seem to go into detail about the extreme rage he felt between TMP and that episode of ENT about these imposter, reboot Klingons. I assume, should some ill advised episode in the distant future 'explain' the DSC Klingons, all this will be deleted and forgotten about ;)

Twenty-five years later, no less! STAR TREK somehow survived, even on "metaphysical" level, for a quarter of a century without any "explanation" for that makeup change.

Personally I would love to see a "stable" Matt Decker in an exemplary command situation. It would make what happened in the Doomsday Machine all the more poignant. If so, I hope that there is at least a passing reference to his "son" Willard which has never been officially confirmed but largely accepted. In fact, I'll take any mention that acknowledges that TMP as a legitimate part of the Trek timeline.

Oh yeah, now that I think about it...gimme a Captain Garth too.

I suppose Stephen Collins as Matt Decker would be completely out of the question.

Because of Burnham, Spock. Because of Spock, Pike and the Enterprise.

Beyond that, I like others' suggestions of Robert April, Richard Daystrom, and Matt Decker. And let me throw in Montgomery Scott, who was older than many of his Enterprise crewmates and was doubtless already in the prime of his career by 2257. Unlike Spock, Pike, and the big E, though, none of these would need to be major story elements... even minor appearances would be Easter eggs for the fans.

As for those we've seen so far, I have to say I've been impressed by the casting for both Sarek and Mudd. And FWIW, regarding the latter...
In TOS, Mudd appeared to be 40-50 while in Discovery, he appeared to be about 40.
...it's an amusing illustration of how ambiguous age can be in Hollywood. Roger C. Carmel was all of 34 when he first played Mudd, but looked much older; Rainn Wilson is 51, but effectively pulls off making the character look a decade younger!

...What is Scotty doing around this time anyway? His career seems to have included lots of civilian stuff, as per "Relics" and possibly the "engineering advisor" bit from "Operation: Annihilate!". Perhaps not in the Kelvin timeline, but that one had Chris Pike drafting all sorts of hopeless cases with vehemence...

Burnham is facing life in prison, but Dr. Adams is already out there to outdate such punishment. Perhaps the two should meet?

I fear how much butthurt this show is causing EAS. Just their reaction to the Fake D-7 alone is probably putting all of us to shame.

It means the folks at Ex Astris Scientia take this franchise too frickin' seriously. Is this what happens when you try to make Star Trek your whole life when it really shouldn't be?

The best part is:

"28 Oct 2017: I have decided to add my ratings to the reviews of the so far released Discovery episodes, disregarding general problems with the setting of the series and the production design. The curious result is that Discovery currently ranks higher on average than TNG."
:guffaw:

I hate to join the dogpile on Bernd here, as in spite of his deep and obvious prejudices I've always enjoyed his site and his attention to detail. His and many others' work on the Wolf 359 ships was legendary and awe-inspiring back in the days when I joined internet fandom, and his partnership with by Jörg Hillebrand in extensively cataloguing re-uses of props, changes made in "remastered" TOS and TNG, etc., has yielded some fascinating observations. His site is still a great resource for stuff like that, which you won't find analyzed with such depth and diligence anywhere else.

But he seems to have really jumped the shark over DSC. It didn't start there, of course. Yet here, he doesn't seem to realize that fans of his stripe are being deliberately trolled and made to look ridiculous only to have the rug pulled out from under them when it turns out that the makers of DSC aren't ignoring or discarding [Gollum]MY PRECIOUSSS[/Gollum] continuity at all, but rather building upon it in a carefully measured and intentional (if subversive) manner—one which actually responds to fan criticisms of years past, including some of his, yet in doing so firmly and unmistakably reminds us just who it is that owns the sandbox and all the toys in it.

(As an aside, not meant exclusively to Bernd as he's far from alone...while I know it really isn't important and that people probably aren't going to stop, so it's not a hill I'd pick to die on, this "DIS" business is driving me inordinately up the wall everywhere I see it. To me, DIS means Disney. That's the abbreviation for their TV channel and the one they're traded under on the stock market. I can't unsee it; they've successfully branded it. It's no wonder CBS wouldn't have picked that to call the show by. It isn't that I see its use as derogatory per se, but at times it does come off a bit like the impotently defiant act of a sulking child who can't have his way. "You can't tell me what to call it! You're not my real dad!":scream: It reminds me of those who used to insist on using James Dixon's dates for their sites/posts. It's your call, but...)

Anyway, I said I didn't want to pile on, but I guess I did. Sorry Bernd, if you're out there, my friend. IDIC, live long and prosper, and all that jazz.
