David Mack is also writing A Cold War spy novel called The Iron Codex. It maybe a very long time before he writes more Star trek novels. I'm really hoping we'll get some DS9 novels to celebrates it's 25 anniversary and another Enterprise book to continue where Patterns of Interference left off.. I hope we'll get some more Tos and TNG books too.

That's the second Dark Arts novel, each book takes place during a different time period. The first one is WWII, the second is The Cold War, and I can't remember right now what the third will be.

Oh? Now that makes the series far more interesting to me. Thanks for the info. (OK, so I pre-bought the first one as BD were doing 10% extra off but always good to justify it!)

I'm pretty sure he has mentioned in a post here when the third one takes place, but I don't have time to look right now.

Took me less than a minute:

Dark Arts is secret history, with Renaissance-style black magic operating behind the scenes of established 20th-century geopolitics.

Book 1, The Midnight Front, is a war epic / origin story set during World War II. It is currently slated for publication in the first quarter of 2018 from Tor Books.

Book 2, The Iron Codex, is an espionage thriller set in 1953, and will deal with the origins of the Cold War, the early years of modern Israel, McCarthyism, and more. Best guess, this is coming in early to mid-2019.

Book 3, The Shadow Commission, will be a conspiracy piece set in 1963 immediately after the Kennedy assassination, and will deal with various aspects of the fallout of that crime. This will, I hope, be out before the end of 2020.

The Dark Arts series as a whole will be about the seeding and development of the modern Fascist movement in the West

As an update to this, The Midnight Front has an official publication date of January 30, 2018, and is currently available for pre-order in hardcover, trade paperback, eBook, and unabridged digital audio formats.

I am almost finished writing The Iron Codex; I expect to turn in the draft to editor Marco Palmieri in mid-November. The focus of that book has shifted since I wrote that early description. While it is still set up as an espionage thriller, as the story took shape its timeframe moved to early 1954, and it no longer has much to do with McCarthy or Israel.

If all goes well, I plan to start outlining The Shadow Commission over the holidays, and to begin writing the manuscript in February. My overall plan for that book has not changed … yet. :-)

I don't suppose anyone has any new information on the future of Pocket Books' ST line?

It's November 1st and still no official announcement AFAIK..

Nope.

I check for news for my blog at places online where something like this could be posted (S&S' site, licensing sites, author's sites & social media, Google News, etc.) once or twice a week (I found the news about Eric Kotani's death during my latest check a couple of days ago) and nothing of note regarding the future of the line since the Las Vegas convention.

Then it would be safe to assume that they've lost the main contract and that Disco will be the only books published by S&S or one of its subsidiaries.

But we were also told that the new contract allows references to the new movies which wouldn't really be necessary unless the 24th century novel line would still go on. Or maybe we'll get Kelvin novels.

I know this. Unless you didn't already know, I was making a slight joke.

Sorry, I'm terrible at detecting humor on the internet :( And my track record concerning humor in this thread is pretty terrible anyway :D

If a new publisher had got the license I think we would have heard by now.

So I think it is safe to say that nothing has been signed as yet unless...

Is there any big convention coming up in the US shortly where an announcement could be made? (Speculation)

Not necessarily. CBS And Paramount could’ve put language in the contract specifying a date when the companies could release info, and any release before would be a breach.
