This is great news. Really. Instead of addressing the problem of rising sea levels, we are praising new bandaid technology to treat a still fatal gunshot wound. Of all forums, i would have thought that trekkies understood the urgency for a sustainable world, because we will never get to star trek times if stuff like this is praised. Its akin to promoting a new bandaid that absorbs blood from a fatal headshot wound with more efficiency than previous bandaids. Its still pointless in the end. Vulcans arent gonna come save our world with terraforming tech in this universe. Instead of finding ways to block rising sea levels how bout finding ways to STOP rising sea levels and stop acting like new concrete tech holds any value at all. Vulcans would be so ashamed at a post as stupid as this one is.
Maybe the human race can't get past this point and see what is over the hill so they don't want to advance over the hill to see what's on the other side.

What proof do you want, someone actually building the pyramids today?
Not to mention, the link I offered previously used the Panama Canal as an example of a successful, modern "megabuild." It involved moving a lot more material than the pyramids.
The idea that we couldn't replicate the pyramids today is goofy. We don't do it because there's just no reason to, not because we can't.
Plus the Pyramids are OLD, very old and have aged considerably. I think when brand new they had smooth surfaces all over.

I think it best to preserve the structures as they are. There is a lot of controversy in archaeological circles over past attempts to "restore" ancient buildings - even partially, as Arthur Evans did with Knossos. We're not that certain about the ancient appearance. It would also make any future archaeological investigations more difficult.
We're not even that certain the pyramids were used as tombs, although the great pyramid contains an empty, slightly damaged, granite sarcophagus. I don't think any mummified bodies have been found in them, although it's possible later dynasties robbed them for their treasure. Some researchers think they were used as astronomical aids although I think this is unlikely given that they don't seem to be constructed to make such observations anything but inconvenient. A raised ziggurat-type platform would seem preferable for that purpose.
