Generic, but Pertinent Question

DS9_Klingon

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
I'm watching, or was recently watching by the time time you read this; Voyager Season 4 episode 17 and 18, I think...Hirogen's playing or 'Hunting' in the Holodeck as German Solider's/Dare I say impersonating
Nazi's....Janeway and 7 of 9 are part of a French Resistance..Vive Le Petain!!! I mean...LoL...History joke..I'm a World War 1 junkie and Petain well By WWII..smh...
I apologize for the brief digression. My actual question, besides Mr. Mack's upcoming Titan release featuring the Husnock.......What, if any, titles exist that feature a 'rare' alien race ?
I get it, my UN has 'Klingon' in it Lol, but seriously, and I'll preface this by saying no offense by any means, but it's to the point of Ad Nasuem with Klingons and Romulans and we know about the Borg, etc....I'd like to dive into a decent title with a rare, ideally hostile, alien race that the Federation has to tackle...Help!!
Of course, growing up with TNG, DS9 and Voyager, an Alien race excluding TOS options, would be ideal.....Wait...Im not a hater-->I'm 75% done with Greg Cox's Child of Two Worlds and am loving it!!

Thank in advance!!

Simply put--->Does a non-TOS novel(s) exist that features a rare, non-generic (These are Generic
-->Klingon, Borg, Romulan--> So NOT these races) alien race, that's hostile such as the Hirogen or Species 8472-->These ARE rare examples of Species non-existent (Maybe?) in the Novel Universe exist ?

I think the OP is asking for book recommendations that center around less widely explored species seen onscreen (i.e. not the Klingons, Romulans, Borg)?

Kirstin Beyer's Voyager relaunch novels have done a good job of revisiting a number of the species the ship encountered on their original journey - sometimes species like the Voth and other times groups like Riley's people from "Unity". Species 8472 also make a reappearance in those novels, though.

I guess part of the confusion people are having stems from the fact that there are literally hundreds of Star Trek novels that don’t focus on the Klingons, Romulans, or Borg. So it’s hard to know where to begin with recommendations.

Ryan-- As you might assume, based on how long I've been a member of this forum, I'm new to the Novel Universe. Please Pardon my current level of knowledge.

Love your website FYI keep it up!! :)

Thanks! It’s alot of fun having it and keeping it going.

My comment wasn’t meant in a negative way, just saying it’s hard to know where to start. As far as your specific recomendation request, the only book I can recall that deals with the Hirogen is DS9: Demons of Air and Darkness. Of course if you think you might want to read the post-finale DS9 books anyway (and they are some of the best Treklitout there), you might as well start 3 books earlier with DS9: Avatar.

And the whole overarching plot of the early DS9 relaunch involved a species from a single TNG episode.

The parasites from "Conspiracy".

The first, second and third Typhon Pact books deal with the Breen, Gorn and Tholians as well as the Andorians.

Hi Todd and James--Please, let me know what titles (BOOKS, not television episodes) that include the Hirogen. I'm, quite intrigued by them.

My suggestion: Go to Memory Beta and use its search engine to type in the names of screen-used aliens you like - and see what novel links there are. Or use Google and add "Memory Beta" as a descriptor.

eg: http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/Hirogen
