CBS/Paramount decide what is canon. Your subjective interpretation of what CBS/Paramount says to be or not to be canon is not what determines its objective canon. I haven't seen enough proof that it is canon, so it's just another non-canon source to me.

Harry has always managed to get some sort of high tech item and only used it somewhat well, until he gets overconfindent and messes it up. It wasn't the first time and it won't be the last time for Mudd and seeming high tech trinkets. He has sources that Starfleet has not found, and even Spock is interested in what he's found.

Again, what point is served by having TAS be non-canon at this point in time?

Who's to stay he didn't just find it lying around on a planet some where? At some point you have to allow the audience to make assumptions otherwise all you get are a bunch of explanations about pointless things that aren't relevant to the story.

It's even worse, Mudd knows all about the federation's #1 top secrete shroom drive, and how to reprogram/hack any Starfleet vessel. So we let him go free with that intel.
AT least we now have a time crystal energy device (tardis) inside of a space whale that's inside a cargo bay on discovery. I wonder how much of that tech we get to reap on board our Discovery science vessel.
I feel sorry for the Klingons, We have improbability drive, and a tardis. They or any other alien race are in trouble. I say two more episodes and the war is over.

We were talking about stardates and the zombie cheerleader entered animated series stardates into the discussion as evidence.

Berlinghoff Rasmussen got his hands on a hyperadvanced 26th century time pod and used it to nearly alter history. If a failed inventor from 22nd century New Jersey could steal an entire vehicle capable of traveling through time and get away with the theft for a while then a more technologically-capable and wily Harry Mudd getting his own hands on temporal technology isn't out of the realm of possibility.

The Hell you can't. The Hell. You. Can't. Naggy wives and deadbeat husbands are real things, and those that have had to deal with them at any time in their lives can find laughter in those situations. There is nothing wrong with that.

I just assumed the Klingons gave him whatever he needed to get the tech by trade or by force. But you do have to wonder why they didn't use it themselves...or why the Federation isn't going to use it. This time crystal seems pretty damn powerful.

The hacking I figured was a matter of using one or two iterations to force someone to show him how to do it.

The problem of the crystal does bother me a little, but I enjoyed the episode immensely until I started thinking about that. I was smiling and laughing every minute. I am enjoying the series overall but a respite from the overall arc was welcome for one week.

No, there are plenty of examples of very specific lore from TAS that have been used in both this show and the Abrams movies. Less can be said for ST:V

Yes but that would still be true if only bits and pieces of TAS were canon too. It doesn't prove TAS in its entirety is canon

I always more felt that that was a predestination dealio.

He was lured into the time machine by creeps from the 26th, tricked into stealing from Picard, and then had the door shut on him as he tried to leave, because the whole adventure was a sandbox.

I liked the episode but it was strange. The hip hop party seems pretty off-brand. As did all the shit/fucks the other ep. And then the ending was shockingly on brand, but doesn't really fit with what the show is. Still it was a pretty good take on the time loop thing. And Burnham going "1v1 me" and gobbling the dark matter death ball was pretty cool.

I dont know if CBS has ever made any statements about it. Clearly there are some things that don't work, First Contact invalidated or at least caused early trek history to be different, but thats been true since the 90's.

I gave it a 9. I almost gave it a 10. Highly entertaining to me, my favorite episode so far. Felt very Star Trek, very TOS to me. I can't remember any Trek show having a first season with so many great episodes. I can't wait to see Discovery do an episode on the level of 'The Inner Light', 'In The Pale Moonlight', something that will get a 10 from me. Feel like that is not a far off possibility. We have quality Star Trek right out of the gate, first season. Very happy.

    Things I noticed:

    - No teaser act, just a recap of the last Mudd episode and straight to the title screen

    - Burnham personal log. "Specialist". Considers Tilly a friend.

    - Stamets the dancin' Space Hippie lol

    - Disco Party. Hip hop music. Drunk Tilly!

    - Stamets has gone crazy and I love it. Has a new "cybernetic augment" device on his forearm.

    - I really like Ash Tyler. He better not be Voq.

    - "Gormagander" (sp?) creature, endangered species, space whale. I'm reminded of TNG's 'Tin Man'.

    - Harry Mudd's helmet freaking rules

    - reminded of TNG's 'Cause And Effect'

    - strong Dr. Who vibe from Harry Mudd

    - Stamets immediately knows he's in a time loop

    - Burnham. Science Specialist.

    - Discovery has a "self destruct system"

    - Stamets really is a highlight of this show

    - 30 minute time loop. Only Stamets aware of it. Tired of it, ready to throw himself out an airlock

    - Alpha Centauri mention

    - 'Stayin Alive' song at the party lol

    - Ash kisses Burnham. They dance. It's not awful.

    - "time crystal"

    - love all the time spent in the cargo bay, reminds of TNG again

    - Mudd records a captain's log, says a stardate

    - Stella & her dad immediately remind me of TOS!

    - Stella is awesome & so is her ship

    - TOS music!!!!!!!!

    - I like Ash Tyler more and more each moment, but also my distrust grows as well.

    - next episode looks amazing. away team to a planet.

If Ash is Voq, this is about when he should have broken character, with the promise of a reset in 15 minutes, just to see how everything played out. Especially if the ship is about to be sold to a Klingon faction that he is not fond of.
