Probable inventions within the next 30 years?

  1. We can revisit this thread in 2047 and see who got the most points.
5 points for every correct invention
10 points in addition if you get the year right to.

    - 2023
A real functional wireless electricity delivery system that works for all households items at home. No more cords connected to your Tv, lamp, microwave etc.

    - 2032
Hologram game consoles. You can define an object/surface in your livingroom like a sofa or a table as a play-area and project games like Tekken or a racing game on to it.

You are welcome with your nostradamus skills,.... predict the future! =)

Fully-working (and affordable) artificial replacement organs.

  3. Ahh...yes, good one! Hope this gets done quickly.
"New lungs sir?"... The lifespan of humans will truly rocket with this invention.

DNA editing, which will allow the correction of genetic defects, designer babies, cures for many diseases including cancer, and the creation of eugenic bioweapons that target individuals or entire populations that share a genetic characteristic.

  5. Interesting...
I follow up on your DNA-editing and propose the idea of

    -2043
a genetic recombination between the floral and animal kingdom.

You can now buy clothes with cotton/chameleon properties.!

Great camouflage for the military and the outdoorsy people, or if you just want a fancy t-shirt that change colors and blends with your sofa.

Smart clothes will probably also have some degree of embedded AI, be able to adjust their fit to you as required and either be able to clean themselves or tell you when they need cleaning. If they have vision sensors, they might also be capable of giving you a crude form of cloaking ability as you say.

  7. I like the term "smart clothes" and that your outfit can adjust to your size and also self-clean. Very cool!
This is surely the future for clothes!

Of course fusion reactors! in 30 years we'll see those in 30 years! like 30 years before.. and before that and... :p

  9. Its totaly possible we have fusion reactors before 2047.
The st40 reactor is a start to real fusion power... So you might actually be cashing in 5points =)

The potential energy in a glass of water is enough to power a small city for a year.
So maby a hydrogen cell of sorts in the size of a lighter
    [IMG]
eventually will become avaliable... Probably more like 200 years away tho =\

A huge spike in the number of cases of cancer.

    - 2026 - 2028
A cure or more likely a reliable stabilizing treatment (more profitable) for cancer will be put on the market finally.

Go ahead with your wireless charging. I ain't havin' it.

By 2025, CRISPR or similar gene editing techniques will likely be available to repair the DNA damage that causes cancer. Whether the pharmaceutical companies will choose to overcharge for the treatment has yet to be seen. Cancer is such a big killer that many governments will probably crack down on any price gouging.

Wireless charging by inductive coupling, whether resonant or non-resonant, doesn't seem like enough of a game changer for domestic appliances where the power cables can be easily concealed. Widespread takeup is unlikely other than for small portable devices and perhaps electric vehicles. I suspect the inefficiency of power loss with distance would make it unattractive to many consumers.

  12. Yes 30 years may not be enough to come up with a good solution.

there's that... But then we got Kor's
to carry us through the fine-tuning process ;-)
    Also... That research lead us to;

    -2047
    The company
    A*I*R*I*A*M

    All-Individual-Radical-Improved-Augmented-Man

In addition to robotic, cybernetic attachments, theres also the study of how magnetic waves
can block parts of the brain to create new paths and rewiring
to unlock dormant potential at will. Which will give us a usable "savant syndrome" trigger device implemented in the AIRIAM interface, just turn the nob to Math or Art.
Its the dawn of a new industrial revolution.
Everyone is a genious after that so then we can finaly solve the power loss problem with cordless electricity :-D

Are you... are you trying to use your monkey brain to predict innovation on the other side of the freakin' Singularity?

    Stop that.

(And yes, I did get the Discovery reference you were making. ;) )

  14. Hehe :hugegrin::bolian:

Also "i" solved the problem with cordless powerloss..
    The Weyl particle Yey!!

Awhile back I came across the term "mesotechnology" ("meso-" for middle). This refers to the scale between micro- and nano- (which is engineering with individual atoms). At the meso scale we are referring to small-sh clumps of atoms.

I first came across mention of meso
-technology in. the Orion's Arm Universe. Lately I've noticed articles online-this seems to be becoming a topic of significant research.

  16. Yea i suspect everything in this thread including future ideas posted will have some degree of meso/nano/micro structure that are constructed/manipulated.

I want to buy paint that change color and tents made out of soft lightweight batman-memory-cloth. Stuff like that are probably comming in the "near" future. Transparent Steel?...

I posed a similar question in here..... "can we make designer beings?" would love your thoughts.

    My predictions........

Next 50 years and being very optimistic here but fully functional artificial eyes that function just like the bionic eye Steve Austin had in the Six Million Dollar Man... Of course maybe not that powerful unless you are into espionage but they will be functionally the same.

Using DNA editing, we might be able to augment our natural eyes so we can perceive the range of frequencies available to the mantis shrimp and we have the visual acuity of a bird of prey. However, DNA encoding is not linear. Messing with one aspect of the phenotype might well degrade another aspect. Humans are smarter than chimps but are nothing like as strong.
