Hologram game consoles. You can define an object/surface in your livingroom like a sofa or a table as a play-area and project games like Tekken or a racing game on to it.

DNA editing, which will allow the correction of genetic defects, designer babies, cures for many diseases including cancer, and the creation of eugenic bioweapons that target individuals or entire populations that share a genetic characteristic.

Great camouflage for the military and the outdoorsy people, or if you just want a fancy t-shirt that change colors and blends with your sofa.

 

Smart clothes will probably also have some degree of embedded AI, be able to adjust their fit to you as required and either be able to clean themselves or tell you when they need cleaning. If they have vision sensors, they might also be capable of giving you a crude form of cloaking ability as you say.

 

I like the term "smart clothes" and that your outfit can adjust to your size and also self-clean. Very cool!

A cure or more likely a reliable stabilizing treatment (more profitable) for cancer will be put on the market finally.

By 2025, CRISPR or similar gene editing techniques will likely be available to repair the DNA damage that causes cancer. Whether the pharmaceutical companies will choose to overcharge for the treatment has yet to be seen. Cancer is such a big killer that many governments will probably crack down on any price gouging.

Wireless charging by inductive coupling, whether resonant or non-resonant, doesn't seem like enough of a game changer for domestic appliances where the power cables can be easily concealed. Widespread takeup is unlikely other than for small portable devices and perhaps electric vehicles. I suspect the inefficiency of power loss with distance would make it unattractive to many consumers.

Awhile back I came across the term "mesotechnology" ("meso-" for middle). This refers to the scale between micro- and nano- (which is engineering with individual atoms). At the meso scale we are referring to small-sh clumps of atoms.

I first came across mention of meso
-technology in. the Orion's Arm Universe. Lately I've noticed articles online-this seems to be becoming a topic of significant research.

 

Yea i suspect everything in this thread including future ideas posted will have some degree of meso/nano/micro structure that are constructed/manipulated.

I want to buy paint that change color and tents made out of soft lightweight batman-memory-cloth. Stuff like that are probably comming in the "near" future. Transparent Steel?...

My predictions........

Next 50 years and being very optimistic here but fully functional artificial eyes that function just like the bionic eye Steve Austin had in the Six Million Dollar Man... Of course maybe not that powerful unless you are into espionage but they will be functionally the same.

 

Using DNA editing, we might be able to augment our natural eyes so we can perceive the range of frequencies available to the mantis shrimp and we have the visual acuity of a bird of prey. However, DNA encoding is not linear. Messing with one aspect of the phenotype might well degrade another aspect. Humans are smarter than chimps but are nothing like as strong.

 

• Search and reascue drones
• Organs cloned using your DNA and spinach cells.

• Lamps and ceiling lights doubling as your wifi router, with data transfer speeds that'll make lag in your mmorpg games a thing of the past.

I mean it's not like the basic tech required to make these things a reality haven't been invented already.
