Favorite "Obscure" Sci-Fi Movies?

Moon and Sunshine (2 different movies)

I loved Moon, but I didn't care for Sunshine. I think part of the problem with Sunshine might have been my expectations though. I didn't realize it was basically going to turn into a slasher flick part way through.

Well, I would hardly class Moon or Sunshine as Obsecure Sci-Fi movies to beging with, but Sunshine was about 75% good 25% poor, the last quarter or so when it turned into a slasher film didn't do much for me.

It's fantasy rather than sci-fi, but I'm a big fan of The Last Witchhunter.

I'm not entirely sure it counts as obscure, but it did get trashed by critics and bombed at the box office.
I'm a huge fan of The Dresden Files and those kind of urban fantasy stories, and I thought this did a great job of bringing that kind of a vibe to the big screen.
Another one I remember that got a similar response that I liked was I, Frankentstein.

I'm not entirely sure it counts as obscure, but it did get trashed by critics and bombed at the box office.
I'm a huge fan of The Dresden Files and those kind of urban fantasy stories, and I thought this did a great job of bringing that kind of a vibe to the big screen.
Another one I remember that got a similar response that I liked was I, Frankentstein.

Saw both of those at the cinema (and we got a free upgrade to 3d on Frank because the 2d screen wasn't working for some reason).

I think I preferred Hunter, but did like both.

Dark Star, Life Force, and Battle Beyond the Stars are imo criminally underrated and brought up enough. Battle Beyond the Stars was additionally scored by James Horner and subsequently sounds like a dollar-store version of Wrath of Khan.

I did too. I'm still disappointed we aren't going to get any more Witchhunter movies.
