Sci-fi Brilliant but Canceled or little known gems

Big Guy and Rusty

Part homage to Astroboy and part satire, it's about Earth's protectors, a robot superweapon that's secretly got a pilot inside (played by Tom Hanks' brother), and an artificially intelligent robot sidekick with the personality of a small boy. Both are nuclear-powered.

I met Geoff Darrow, who created the artwork for Big Guy and Rusty, and thanked him for his great work on this.

Amazing Stories

Show was created by Stephen Spielberg, but featured various other famous directors, including Robert Zemeckis and others, as well as various big screen stars. Pretty good quality stuff, for the most part.

I recall this show. I watched it as a kid but the only episode I recall is the one with a airplane in WWII that has a guy in gun torrett that will be killed because the landing gear won't work. I forget though what kind of miracle happened that saves his life.

I liked the bio-weapon implants, the Skrill - very cool idea.

The pilot was pretty much as written by Roddenberry (apart from some technology updates) and season 1 was very clsoe to his ideas, Season 2 was a drop off but picked up in 3 and 4.

There is no Season 5 of Earth: Final Conflict.

This was Kelly Hu's first role, I think. From space cadet here, and now an admiral The Orville.

I once talked to the guy who wrote the script for this movie - it was his favorite. The 3D animated graphics are good.

Another series I enjoyed.

Had read the books so was excited when the tv series aired (though they took some liberties). There were plans for a third series that would wrap up the book trilogy but it was never produced.

John Doe was a series on Fox 15 years. It starred a pre- Prison Break Dominic Purcell as a guy with amnesia but knew the entirety of human knowledge which of course he used to solve crimes. It of course ended in a cliffhanger. The producers later revealed that was in a boating accident, had a near death experience and traveled to a spiritual plane and that's where he gained all of human knowledge.

The Visitor also on Fox. John Corbett played a guy abducted by aliens in the Bermuda Triangle during World War 2. He returns 50 years later with mysterious powers. He winds up traveling America helping people while being chased by the US government.

Strange Luck also on Fox. Starring D. B. Sweeney in the role of Chance Harper, a freelance photographer afflicted with a bizarre tendency to always be in the wrong place at the right time. i think of of the episodes made a reference to Fox Mulder implying it was set in the X-Files universe. I think that The Visitor did the same thing.

In the late 90s early 00s one of my local stations ran a series from New Zealand called The Tribe about a virus that killed everyone over the age of 21 or so and how the pre-teen and teenage survivors had to cope in living in a world without adults and to try and find a cure before the virus claims them as well.
I don't think they ever aired the last season or two so I don't know if it was ever resolved.
Some of the child actors/actresses also appeared on Hercules: The Legendary Journey's, and Xena: Warrior Princess.
