"Choose Your Pain" Klingon ship (Visual spoilers?)

a Porsche 911 turbo from the '70's looks nothing like one from today
You bloody serious?

It's hard to find a better example of a classic design reimagined for the modern times than the 911:

Other good examples are the Mini Cooper, Chevy Camaro, Ford Mustang...

On the other hand, a perfect example of a "radical makeover" would be the Jaguar XJ:

I meant the Jaguar XJ.. :nyah:

Well to be honest, at this point "prime" is nothing more than a meaningless buzz word that CBS is throwing around. It certainly doesn't mean anything to me anymore.

Good for you, but it means something to me as it grounds it in a reality that I like.

In what way? What does 'Prime' even mean at this point?

In the story, they won't go blowing up Vulcan, or earth. They won't kill off Kirk, Spock, McCoy.

They will be following the established timeline.

I'm sorry, but how could what they showed be a Prime D-7? We've seen D-7's both before and after Discovery and they simply look nothing like what we were given Sunday. Even the Klingons themselves (however poorly done) still basically look like Klingons.

It doesn't, and that bothers me a lot, but it is still the Prime Timeline. That is only a visual change.

Once you make that big of a a change to an iconic element, you are squarely moving into reboot territory. Regardless of what CBS says.

it is only a visual change, not a story change. Changing the shape of the D-7 doesn't effect any future stories AFAIK.

I'm not buying into the the visuals, I'm buying into the story.

For me, it is all one package. Either it lines up or it doesn't. Right now? Discovery doesn't come close to lining up with what came before. That doesn't make it bad. I actually see it as a plus.

All the power in the world to you. I won't stop treating it as Prime until the writers say it isn't.

This is a visual medium, visuals matter, at least to me.

They matter to me as well, but in relation to the story.

Maybe the D-# system is not class specific but refers to the size/mass of the ship and/or its armaments. There was a Class D-12 Bird of Prey in Generations, so perhaps that refers to small, poorly armed scout vessels, while D-7s are heavily armed cruisers. D-5s are bulky heavy armored transports. Something like the Negh'Var Command Ship could be a Class D-1.

I seriously doubt they put that much thought into it. But, why even call it a D-7, when you could call it a D-6 and people would go "okay".

I can't be bothered with this sort of thing any more. It is OK for patching occasional mistakes, but if the people making the show are hell bent changing everything just because they can it's not gonna cut it.

The thing is, we've seen battleship sized and armed ships labelled as D5, 6 and 7 with little or no real difference in purpose.
