I’ve been following this thread for some time but only joined today as I didn’t previously have anything to contribute

 

That is a deeply unfair assumption to make. You don't know the factors behind the decision. You don't know anything about who made it and why. You're just an armchair quaterback -- you don't have to deal with the responsibility of actually making these decisions, and their stakes are immensely lower for you, for whom all of this is just recreation, than for the people who actually have to make them as part of their careers, their livelihood. So you have no right whatsoever to hurl that kind of accusation.

There are currently three 2018 Trek novels known to the public, the next Discovery novel, the next Voyager novel and Book 2 of the Prometheus trilogy, so this isn't exactly news. Unless your contact means three more in addition to these ones?

But since a contract renewal is involved I would assume there would be some kind of press release or coverage in the press (like here for the last renewal).

The phrasing of this is indicating that you don't know that this is the case 100% either. And if you reread our conversation (including your usual tactic of selective quoting to try win an until then not existing argument) you are the one leading me from my initial assumption to the post you're so deeply offended about.

So maybe you shouldn't try to control the narrative when you don't no its conclusion either (or know it and try to play coy), instead of attacking other posters once you have dig yourself into a hole.

BTW There was a change at the top of Gallery Books only two months ago. That could be a reason why the renewal isn't finalized yet.

But we're not talking about a contract renewal. We're talking about Kirsten's book being delayed because of her work on Discovery. The whole point is that the delay in the VGR book has nothing to do with the contract renewal. You're conflating two entirely different matters.

That's an odd interpretation of my phrasing. I didn't say "I'm pretty sure" or "I'm fairly sure," I said "I'm sure," period, no hedging. I've been in e-mail correspondence with Kirsten recently and she's talked about how "crazy busy" she is on the show. Heck, it's a testament to her hard work and dedication that she's even still doing the novel on top of her extensive responsibilities to the show and to her daughter. You should be grateful that it was only delayed instead of cancelled like Goodman's Decker novel.

But it's not a matter of which of us has the higher percentage of certainty -- it's that you're defaulting to assuming someone is guilty of something, and I'm saying nobody should be accused of anything in the absence of hard evidence. When you lack proof, you presume innocence -- that's just basic decency and fairness. Just because something didn't happen the way you think it should have, that doesn't mean somebody did something wrong. It just means that things sometimes don't work out even when everyone is doing their best.

 

Wow, for a writer your reading comprehension seems to be lacking. That part of my post was in response to JD ( the guy I quoted, you know), and nothing to do with what followed.

You can be sure of things without knowing. Just ask all those Trump supporters.

So if a professional author uses "I'm sure" instead of "I know" I tend to assume that this intentional to make clear it's personal opinion, not fact.

I like how you're the one heating up the rhetoric, now even trying to make this sound like its a legal trial, yet I'm supposed to be the aggressor here for even throwing the idea out there that someone made an unwise decision (that's almost hate speech, I know. )

 

Well there’s four known as Prometheus 3 is also getting translated, however it’s date is still TBA, but considering the length in between 1 & 2 (November 2017 to May 2018) we’ll probably see it by November 2018.

 

They're from Insight Editions rather than Pocket Books, but I did find out about two more Trek books coming next year. They are going to be doing book and model kits for the Enterprise (no bloody A, B, C, D, E, or NX), and the Enterprise D. The books will be written by Dayton Ward, so I'm assuming these must be the other Insight Editions books he mentioned a while back.

 

The model kit books are on Simon & Shuster's website.

 

Oh, the article on Trek Collective said they are published by Insight Editions.

 

Insight Editions is apparently an S&S imprint, sister toPocket Books, Gallery, and a plethora of other imprints, past and present.

 

I didn't realize that, it has it's own separate website, while the rest of those are all just on the S&S site.

 

Insight Editions is not an S&S imprint, but the two companies have a partnership that includes S&S handling sales and distribution for them.
