How was war involved with the suburb dramas like The Visitor, Far Beyond The Stars, or Hard Time? Or lighthearted comedy episodes like Little Green Men, Trials & Tribble-ations, or Our Man Bashir? Hell, the early episodes dealing with the Bajoran occupation, like Duet and Necessary Evil, weren't really war episodes per se.

I don't think the Dominion War episodes actually have a history of hitting their target much more frequently than the non-Dominion War ones. There were maybe a half dozen which were superb (mostly standalones or two-parters) and a lot of good to okay ones.

That would be quite intriguing and would actually make sense.

And he had to pay (with some kind of monetary system) to get her. So its canon money exists in TOS lol

There's an old saying - don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Of course just rehashing previous episodes or plots won't gain or hold an audience, especially with competition from everywhere competing for the viewer's attention. However the spore drive seems to me to be a poor choice to build a large part of the new series around. In the vast universe that is Star Trek, surely there are stories that don't rely on an unheard of spore drive to tether the plot to. Using such a plot device is odd for a story set in between two known periods. I know that sounds like a really Star Treky and wonky argument, but that's the course the writers chose. The writers need to choose better from within the vast Star Trek universe (IMHO of course).

I'm waiting to watch this episode until I'm home alone (whenever that is). My elderly father would go nuclear if he were to hear the f-bomb in his household. So, anyway... how bloody/gory/graphically violent is the episode?

I doubt it. One of the producers (forget which one, maybe Harberts) said they didn't want to continue to have such a dark series. One season war with Klingons and then it should be a less dark atmosphere. That probably rules out a war.

Not very. Less than what you'd see on cable tv.

Very. There's prison action where the guards beat people to pulp, and not only do we hear the crunches, we see blood splatter. There's graphic stabbing with entry wounds. There's raygun action that sprays stuff and leaves a face burning.

    Be aware.

Awesome...this is my kind of guy right here.

I love nobody more than the "I'll post my angry posts because I believe the powers that be might just read them and make things more to my liking" guy.

I for one find one of the greatest appeals of this series to be that they're not relying on the same old tech, same old character relationships, etc to establish their story.

    Phasers
    Transporters
    Warp Drive
    Subspace Comms

Fuck...it's about time they came up with SOMETHING different that required some imagination and creativity besides leaning on stuff from "the vast Star Trek universe."

Sorry it's not to your liking. But I'm thrilled they at least tried something different!

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's not to my liking - at least not all of the show. Really it's mostly the spore drive and the breathalyzer that I have trouble getting my head aligned with. I'm all for updating the special effects to leverage what is possible today. I'm also glad Star Trek didn't try to fit into the look and feel of 60's Trek. However, as I mentioned before, this time period is of the show-runners and writers choice. Unfortunately it somewhat locks you into some things. If you chose to write within that time period and go too far outside what is known then don't be surprised when people notice.

Maybe they should go back and edit it?

Show Lorca walking down the corridor saying "Alert my starship to prepare for my arrival" or something like that?

    ;)

Five episodes in, I can say that this truly Star Trek. The characters are warming up, the ethical debates are classic, and the Easter Eggs are cool. The intensity factor may be beyond what some purists can stomach, but it is what is required to exist in today's entertainment market. If Star Trek ain't growing, then it's dead.

New theory....since it's obvious to many that Tyler is set up to be a spy, maybe that's exactly what they want us to think. Since we're so focused on that, we don't even realize that Lorca is the one who was reprogrammed with the mind sifter! :wtf:

They could have dropped either Pike or April from the list and added someone else.

Did you watch the show? They used the Axanar in the second episode and named dropped Deneva twice in the first season. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

We saw her in one mission. I'm sure it was't her first. IIRC the list was for highly decorated Captains

Pretty petty complaints. Are we really stooping to appearance based slams? I dodn't see anything wrong with her skin. Are going to complain about her hair next?
Stick some nacelles on those spoons and they could be starships. ;)

No the war and spores are just background. What's hard to follow? It's been pretty straight forward.
