So, Spock figures it out. A way to stop Romulus being destroyed in the future, and therefore Vulcan in the past. A bit of technobabble, a jump to the future, disaster averted, the timeline adjusts back to Prime, but nuEnterprise is shielded from the changes, a la temporal wake, and before you know it, the reboot crew team up with some familiar faces from the 24th century to uncover, track down, and defeat the perpetrators of an interstellar act of terror.

Fankwank? Reboot Enterprise docked at DS9? Yeah, fanwank, but it would give closure to the Kelvin universe and bring it full circle.

    I'd watch it.

The alive one, Quinto, from the Kelvinverse. Or maybe Primespock worked it out and left notes.

But who says the Kelvin timeline isn't the "happy ending" one and they'd be better off keeping it?

After all, they never had a grim Klingon/Federation war in 2256...

High personal stakes of course. Someone, close to Spock, who is present in the Prime Photo having lived a long and prosperous life must die as a direct consequence of the temporal incursion. Its a cliché to be sure, but Uhura must die for the good of the plot.

I might like to fanfick this, if I've time after the ironing...

Would the reboot crew enjoy being stranded in a future of a universe they're not from?

But it would be a future where the billions killed by Nero never happen.

They would be saving all those people on Vulcan.

Also their fellow Starfleet brothers and sisters killed by Nero over Vulcan.

And the people on the USS Kelvin.

And also all those Klingons too.

Would those lives be worth being trapped (but live) in the future?

And then there's the matter of their duty as Starfleet officers.

What about all that Tim Thomason?

Since I think DIscovery is in a new timeline we have never seen before, how about the ultimate crossover that has Burnham teaming up with 4 different Lorca's from Prime,Kelvin,Mirror and Discovery all in one episode or episodes'? Who knows but maybe this is how the season ends and we see why those 2 extra episodes were added on. Klingon war is over and the Federation has won and Lorca has been exposed as a villian and tries to use the spore drive to escape to a alternate universe.

Burnham and Saru follow him in the Discovery and through story beats ends up getting help from Prime and Kelvin versions of him and they eventually get to the mirror universe were our Lorca has teamed up with their Lorca and their DIscovery and we see a Discovery vs Discovery battle and the bad guys lose and both mirror and our Lorca dies. For whatever reason the Prime LOrca decides to return not to his universe because maybe he was a nobody there and they have no Discovery in the prime universe and joins our crew which we see in season 2. Next season is about Saru as captain which plays into them trying to get back to being explorers and Burnham becomes first officer. Lorca is a hired gun who helps out but we find out even though he isn't a villian he can be very dangerous as well.

My mind can't seem to comprehend the temporal mechanics, but yeah, sure, Starfleet officers are willing to lay down their lives in sevice to others let alone live in discomfort away from loved ones permanently.

But does the scenario involve the wiping of an entire universe from existence? Does billions or trillions of lives lost due to a mad man and natural disaster outweigh the possible nonexistence of n-illions of souls who no longer may exist due to a single choice? These are questions that ought to be addressed in such a story, and something the leads, as denizens of the timeline presumably being wiped from existence, should be thoroughly invested in.

I don't know how much of this speculation is based on actual developments on the show, but let's err on the side of caution when bringing Discovery into the discussion. Spoiler rules are in effect, which means assuming that others may not have watched for six months following release.

Basically everything I posted was speculation and part wishful thinking with a strong helping of that wishful thinking. I think the only thing possible for certain is a mirror universe episode but not even sure if that is confirmed or just rumor. I can confirm though "Discovery" isn't Prime universe. Everyone agreed awhile back on this and the endless debates about canon and reboots has just been a ruse to drive the mod's, insane.:)

Not sure there'd be any creative reason to do this. The Kelvin and Prime universes have very different story logic to them. Let them stay their own things.

I think the creative reason is because if they ever do travel to a alternate universe it makes sense to go to one we already know, plus it's just kind of fun to take elements from the movies and use them in "Discovery" I would love to see the U.S.S Kelvin and Robau and if your going to use any "TOS" characters then you might as well use the actors people are kind of familiar with and even like than going with yet another Kirk,Spock etc. Sometimes the only creative purpose is simply because it is something that would be fun to see. I mean we didn't need Saru to look up all those established captain's in his research but it was still fun to see them, listed.

But wouldn't they be jumping to the future of their timeline, and stopping their Romulus from being destroyed? Presumably over in the Prime timeline things would unfold just as they did before, thus leading to the creation of the Kelvin timeline all over again.

Yes. Hence the technobabble. Perhaps the way to prevent the super Nova in the future requires traversing the original chrono-komptic passage that future Spock originally used to access the kelvin universe, because, of course, future Spock should have travelled back to a point in the prime time line, but somehow arrived in the kelvin timeline twenty years into the alternative timeline after the narada incursion. A timeline that should be causally disconnected for linear time travel from the prime future.

    Temporal mechanics. Pfft.

Does it need to be a full cast crossover or bringing just one major figure from Trek counts too ?

Here's my horrible fanfic that I cooked up under five minutes:

The Enterprise-F, with Admiral Picard onboard, goes out to investigate the Black Hole that Spock and Nero were dragged into. They get accidentally dragged into the thing too. The Enterprise-F arrives in the year 2266. They're soon greeted by a Kelvin Timeline starship and they notice there's some strange stuff going on. The Crew realizes they're not only in the wrong year, they're in the wrong timeline too.. Before they get to explain the whole ordeal, this Kelvin Timeline Starship gets destroyed by a Klingon vessel.

It turns out they arrived at some disputed area in the border of the Klingon Empire and the UFP. They run away only to get ambushed again. The Kelvin Timeline Enterprise-A arrives to save the day. Kirk explains more Federation ships are inbound. However, they're picking up an armada coming from the Klingon Empire too.

We have some minutes of dialogue, both crews get to know each other. Spock explains the Federation developed technology capable of detecting anomalies like the ones that brought Nero and Prime Spock, still, the Klingons were made aware of the whole Time-travel shenanigans and wanted part on it too. The Klingons stole the anomaly-detecting technology and now they will strip apart whatever ship that comes from the future, so they get to acquire new technology for their Empire.

A "dodgy Starfleet Captain" figure is the commander of the Enterprise-F. He's going to serve as the main villain of the Movie. He's motivated by the well-being of his crew and he will go too far to accomplish his objectives. Using the superior technology of the Enterprise-F, he hacks into UFP systems to study better the situation.

Picard is horrified at the idea of Starfleet using future technology to advance itself and even more petrified at how Militaristic the UFP is slowly becoming. The rift between him and the Enterprise-F Captain starts when Picard wants to destroy the ship and evacuate it. The Enterprise-F Captain wants to somehow get his crew back to their own time. So he suggests getting Red Matter into their hands, so they can go back to the past to save the USS Kelvin and use it again to return to the now fixed Prime Timeline. That's obviously that's a no-no for Picard. We have a "Lorca moment" and Picard gets doped and restrained by the Enterprise-F Captain, since he outranks the Captain and will certainly relieve him of duty.

Led by Carol Marcus, now Captain, a UFP fleet arrives at the local. Carol's the leading Scientist in the Red Matter research and secretly holds some of it with her. Oh, also, she's pregnant with Kirk's son. :vulcan:

Our Enterprise-F Captain suspects that she may have some Red Matter around and steals it. Kirk finds Picard and beams him up to the sickbay. Picard then explains to him and to Spock what the Enterprise-F Captain is about to do. Initially, for Picard's despair, they're kinda like "Uh, dude is going to save Kirk's dad and Vulcan ? Doesn't sound so bad".

Suddenly the Enterprise-F starts firing at the Federation Starships and warps away. Kirk knows Starfleet will use the Enterprise-F's technology to create another aberration like the USS Vengeance, so he doesn't give much of a damn. In private, Picard still insists they should go after the Enterprise-F. For curiosity's sake, Kirk asks if he also had a son in the Prime Timeline. Picard confirms it, however, he also tells him that he was absent from David's life and when they finally got to bond, David was killed. Kirk changes his mind. In the Kelvin Timeline he'll probably have a chance of being more close to his kid and avoid him getting killed by the Klingons. They go after the Enterprise-F. But where's Spock ?

He beamed onboard the Enterprise-F seconds before they jumped into warp to offer help to her Captain, so he could save Vulcan. Spock argues that even though they're more technologically advanced, his doppelgänger was the one who developed the Red Matter. The Klingon armada, led by Kor, detected the change of course of the Enterprise-F and arrives there before the pursuing UFP Fleet. Now the Enterprise-F Captain and Spock have little time to create a singularity.

Both Enterprise-A and the UFP fleet arrive at the scene and a big battle between them and the Klingons breaks out. Kirk asks miracle-worker Scotty to develop a way of beaming everyone out of the Enterprise-F. He calls Carol Marcus to ask if there's a way of making the singularity destroy the Enterprise-F instead of dragging them into the past. Kirk also begs her to trust him and to make all the UFP ships jump away. All he has to do now is to beam aboard the Enterprise-F and convince Spock to change his mind and help him instead. At that moment Spock is halfway through the process of creating a singularity. It can't be stopped anymore.

Scotty manages to beam most people out. That includes the Enterprise-F Captain... Directly to the brig. :) Kirk manages to convince Spock, who was selectively not transported, to change his mind. There's a catch, however. The changes need to be in loco. When the singularity forms, whoever is making the changes will have zero chance of escaping it. Spock claims he's the only one with knowledge to do it and chooses to sacrifice himself. Picard stuns him and explains to Kirk that he did pick one thing or two about the field during his very long Starfleet career. He beams the two of them to the Enterprise-A and tells Kirk to enjoy his life by the side of his son. The Enterprise-A jumps away, the Enterprise-F is destroyed by the singularity alongside the Klingon vessels. The movie ends in France, with Kirk and Spock arriving in the Chateau Picard and delivering some random object left by Admiral Picard to a certain young man called Maurice Picard. ;)

I hope no one had a stroke trying to read that much fanwank nonsense.

I still like the story to a dream I had once, when I dreamt I was going to see Star Trek Beyond, only with a very different plot. The story goes like this:

According to my dream, the movie opens in a white nebula or gas cloud of some kind, where the Enterprise-A is supposedly at full stop due to some tests that Scotty is doing to the engines, as is revealed by Kirk in his captain's log. But when Scotty shows up to do his report, he makes a startling revelation to Kirk: they've been at full impulse the entire time. Kirk expresses surprise, as well as a bit of vague deja vu, as though he's been here before. Doctor McCoy offers to examine him, but Kirk merely waves him away, and leaves Spock in command while he goes to his quarters. During this last bit, we hear the first ever reference to Jerry Goldsmith in the new films , as Michael Giacchino includes the theme here (it's exactly the same theme, re-recorded, that plays at 3:25 on this video )

We are then treated to a shot of Starfleet Academy, which more closely resembles the TNG version. And suddenly, much to the surprise of everyone in the theater, we see Captain Picard and the entire crew from TNG (sans Data, who doesn't appear for some reason)! Picard and company, it seems, have been invited to orientation of new students by a starfleet officer in a sciences uniform referred to as "Lisa", but Picard seems irritable, and even a bit rude, due to the inclusion of a student he disapproves of, a student who is mentioned in conversation as being a Betazoid full telepath. We are then introduced to this telepath in a different scene, who is seen partying with her friends, though she is clearly emotionally unstable (we will refer to her as Carrie, since she so closely resembles the Stephen King character). We are shown that Carrie is the true master villain in the film, as she is capable of bending reality when her boyfriend is seen with another girl. She forces the girl to telepathically witness a number of unexplained events, and we trekkies recognize at least one of them: a brief shot of Ilia from the first Star Trek motion picture at a TOS era navigation console (presumably from "Phase II"). Although I woke up at this point, it is inferred that there is a meeting between the TNG crew and the Abrams crew. Finally it is assumed that the final act of the film centers on trying to prevent Carrie from destroying both universes, and that Kirk and Picard have to team up (again). Only this time, no one dies.

Had that been Beyond (with Idris as the Enterprise F captain) it probably would've crossed 500m :)

Who as the Enterprise F captain for ST4? maybe Russell Crowe or Gerard Bulter
