All alien attacks, all important messages happen when the alpha ship crew are on the bridge.

Also somehow the crew always knows to beam down where the trouble spots are. I mean planets are big places and the landing parties always seem to beam straight into the action.

If nobody answers your hail withing two seconds, there's something wrong.
what if it takes ten seconds to answer.
Of course you'd think that in the 23rd and 24th Centuries that ships would have fully computerized comms that immediately answer a hail without an operator's intervention.

At the beginning and end of every episode, mysterious texts are visible in space that appear to be VERY near the ship. Sometimes, they're visible in warp, too. I wonder why no-one ever comments about them, though, with all the sensors they have aboard they surely should pick these up?

Or that if you're fellow Starfleet, you could hack into their comm system and turn it on remotely.
