What if section 31 was a starfleet NCIS team... as a new serie?

Discussion in 'Future of Trek' started by Captain pl1ngpl0ng, Oct 13, 2017.

  1. How many starships are there? certainly enough to keep an ncis team bussy, its bound to happen lots of strange things in a vast fleet of starships roaming the universe.
Also/maby including allied ships its thousands of potential crime scenes and mysterious occurrences taking place, wich can only be solved by a loveable starfleet ncis team.?

And how would that team look like?

    Dinozzo? :

Maby section31 was an official ncis agency at first? It could at least exist like that in a alternative universe. Would you watch something like this?

there are next to no criminals in the federation and even less in starfleet - an di nozzo would be locked up for being a cro-magnon towards women anyway

Please, there are entire planets that are penal colonies and Starfleet has enough to warrent building stockades. Every starship has a brig.

Yeah, Earth seems to be the only place with next-to-no criminals, and that seems to be because they exile all the malcontents and run a pretty strict police state with cyborg cops patrolling via satellite (according to ST '09).

And Earth still may have requisitioned New Zealand (the horror) for minimum security types.

Section 31 is a secretive conspiracy. Not a legal or law-enforcing organization.

I got tired of Section 31 about the second episode it was featured.

Starfleet JAG would be more interesting to me.

Would a Star Trek: JAG be affordable? Remember that JAG benefit immensely from heavy support by the U.S. military in terms of access to military hardware and locations. Much of it either free or at cut rate prices. Needless to say that would not be an option for a Starfleet: JAG.

Since we are dealing with a niche market (science fiction) you will never have the real world profitability since everything is built from scratch.

However, I think that from a story and worldbuilding concept, it could be profitable, because it not only explores strange new worlds, but also speculates as to potential future uses and abuses of new technology. And that actually parallels a lot of what JAG did, which was the potential long term impacts of different military hardware, political positions and reactions.

But, to your point, the production values will never be equal for a Star Trek show.

I wouldn't mind a Star Trek procedural show. Set on a facility similar to DS9, where Starfleet are in unsettled territory a location where UFP rule hasn't been settled and its a little more rambunctious than we're used too. A team from the Federation Special Investigative Service (FSIS) are on hand to respond to any major crimes or incidents involving Starfleet personnel or Federation citizens. It would be interesting to look at Starfleet from a civilian organisation perspective.

One of Gibbs early assignment with NCIS (prior to the time depicted in the series) had Gibbs and Jenny Shepard working in Europe as counter-intelligence assassins. Shepard later became the Director of NCIS.

Early seasons also show NCIS engaging in force interrogation of terrorists. The show became more "gentle" as time went on. So Section 31 as a Federation/Starfleet version of NCIS, might make sense.

In the early seasons of Mission Impossible the team almost routinely overthrew foreign governments, so maybe mix that in to Section 31 as well.

At the beginning of each episode, a Sloan-like character would be seen listening to a antique reel-to-reel tape player.

no it does not. whereas ncis may have (i'm not talking reality) a cladestine department for assasSinations the entire section 31 is clandestine - how can an organistaion nobody knows off do ncis' regular job?

Unknown to how many? Some Admirals knew of it, the Council as well?

But not space station captains and their doctors.

There could be a side of the future NCIS under another names (Sections 1 through 30) that takes care of more mundane matters, investigations and such, while S31 does the "nasty stuffs."

Those assets still have to be designed by someone.

Section 31 is so fanwanky and lame it never ceases to amaze me how many people are obsessed with it.

I honestly think there is a serious fraction of fans who look at it and thinks to themselves "this is how Star Trek should be".
